Rare Items: A Megathread Empty
PostSubject: Rare Items: A Megathread   Rare Items: A Megathread Icon_minitimeTue Jan 05, 2010 11:43 pm

I don't know why I've decided to undertake this ambitious project when I've got so much going on, but someone had to do it. This here thread is for lore on any and all rare or legendary items. Swords, staves, nun-chuks, pink glowing pants, and magical cutlery can all go in here instead of having a whole thread for each one. And, people can apply their characters for the right to obtain these items, whether through some difficult quest or just starting out with it.

How this will work, is I will start out by submitting my own ideas. Then, following the format, others can post their own ideas and debate about them. Once balanced and finalized, the submissions will be attached to the OP. My potions thread also worked like that, except few submitted anything, tragically. My ideas are the best anyway jk so that's all well and good.

FORMAT
Code:
[quote][u]Name:[/u]

[u]Rarity:[/u]

[u]Origin:[/u]

[u]Description:[/u]

[u]Pros:[/u]

[u]Cons:[/u][/quote]

"Rarity" only applies if there is more than one of this kind of item. If so, simply put the amount of items there are. Otherwise, put "unique". If the item doesn't actually exist, put N/A and specify that in the origin or description!

Rare items don't have to have pros, or give any benefit to the user. Some items exist solely to make your life a living hell. But all items must have some kind of cons, be balanced, and follow the fundamentals of alchemy. If you're making an item just so you can apply for it, keep this in mind especially. You're going to have many people looking this over who will deny it if they don't think it's fair.

Aside from those simple rules, you're free to do just about anything with this. Creative ideas will get you recognition, and hopefully inspire other people. This thread is probably too small for "megathread" status but hopefully that won't be true for much longer!

DISCLAIMER: My submissions are up for discussion and require approval as well.

Quote :
Name: Crimson Avarice

Rarity: Unique

Origin: A necklace handed down by the Kironis noble family of Kheltus. According to a forgotten folk-tale, a woman used dark magics to capture her astonishing beauty and charm in a necklace, immortalizing it. She then married into the Kironis family, easily winning the heart of a duke, and promptly murdered him to seize power. It is said that he was so stricken with her, his very soul resides in the necklace, still affixed absolutely on the beauty of its long-dead owner, slowly losing energy to maintain its enchantment.

Description: Any who gaze upon the necklace are enticed and distracted by it. On more susceptible minds (namely, men), it can even induce an almost hypnotic state. Most people assume these feelings of attraction must be for the wearer, and not the necklace itself. The necklace can thus make its wearer more attractive, or seem that way, at least.

Pros:
- Distracts, causing loss of concentration
- Allows for easy manipulation of people

Cons:
- Can affect the wearer, giving them narcissistic tendencies
- Magic is detectable and dispellable by disciplined magic-users
- Does not work well on heterosexual women or homosexual men
- Only women can wear it. Men will be strongly compelled to not wear it, by the necklace itself.

Quote :
Name: Erlamar's Lucky Coin

Rarity: Unique

Origin: According to an old tale, this coin was dropped by Erlamar, an apprentice of a mage, from the top of his tower, and onto the mage's head. In his pain and fury, the mage put a most terrible hex on the coin, gave it its ironic name, and gave it to Erlamar. The coin then moved from bearer to bearer, each one suffering an untimely death.

Description: The coin draws energy from all of its surroundings, including its bearer's own life force, to give the bearer the worst luck in any situation. Swords will be redirected to strike vital organs, arrows will be attracted like magnets, cliffs will be hidden from the bearer's sight until it's too late. Anything goes, until the bearer is dead. The coin then draws their soul and uses it to power its own evil. Somehow, the coin finds its way into people's coin purses and thus circulates through trade.

Pros:
- You can throw it away at any time.

Cons:
- Abysmal luck, that can not be counteracted by magic or potions. Spells and magical energy will be sucked in and used by the coin.
- Causes premature death, either by bad luck or your life energy being drained.
- Sucks your soul out should you die.

Quote :
Name: Olath Rith'tar

Rarity: Unique

Origin: Forged long ago by the <WIP: unknown race>, this sword is one of the last remnants of their ancient empire. Its original name long forgotten, its current name was given by the <WIP: elves?>. It exists only in myth and legend, whatever records were recovered of this long-dead empire.

Description: The sword has a soul. It chooses its owner, and forms a special bond. As its owner grows in strength, magical power, or skill, the sword follows suit. In essence, the sword learns and adapts to its owner. The limits of its power are set only by the limits of its owner.

Pros:
- Grows and evolves with its owner
- Does not require maintenance

Cons:
- Must be chosen by the sword, or else you will be unable to wield it
- Does not really add much power, merely augments / compliments your own

Quote :
Name: The Telekinetic Blades

Rarity: 5 in existence

Origin: According to legend, there existed an ancient group of five mages. These mages possessed remarkable talent, and rather than relying solely on spells, they trained in the art of sword-fighting. They forged identical blades and imbued them with magic. A crystal embedded in the hilt has a supply of energy locked within it, that can only be accessed by the swords to fuel their power.

Description: The blades of these swords are made of pure platinum, which is kept from bending or breaking by magic. The blades will add force and speed to any thrust, stab, block, etc., effectively making the wielder a better sword fighter. The weapons work best in the hands of a mage, and will run out of energy if not recharged by a magic-user.

Pros:
- Durable swords that amplify damage and armor-piercing capabilities

Cons:
- Require recharging after prolonged use

DISCLAIMER: My submissions are up for discussion and require approval as well.

Quote :
Name: The Bag of Horrors

Rarity: One of a kind

Origin: A merchant roughly in his 40's was visiting the Everrain Isles, selling some very curios enchanted objects, and when all he had left in his stock was one unlucky item that many know as a 'Bag of Tricks' which no one would buy, he set sail for the main land. Eyewitness reports say that his ship attempted to sail dangerously close to a landmark known as the Magi's Current, and was wrecked, washing up back on the shores of the Everrain Isles. When the locals found the merchant, he was dead in his cabin, his chest eviscerated and open, the bag of tricks where his heart should have been. One talented anomaly researcher in the Isles spent his time and well being to do some information on the bag, for future safety of potential users in the future.

Description: A small bag made of some sort of moldy, skin-like material, with several amber gems embedded on the bag.

Function: When reaching into this bag, the user pulls out one of many anomalies. After roughly 1.5 hours if the object is not returned to the bag, the item disappears in a cloud of jet black smoke. The possible objects are as follows, alongside recommended actions on what to do with the pulled object.
Quote :

  • A knife forged from Silver; 40% chance of retrieval. Being a dagger, the use is self explanatory. Using the bag of horrors in hopes of retrieving this is a very desperate resort. Even if it's a last resort, using the bag for this isn't recommended.

  • A fist-sized chunk of Navium; 30% chance of retrieval. You will know you pulled it, because it looks like stone, faintly glowing orange. If this is pulled, drop it immediately. Radium produces radiation, and even when in contact for several seconds, it is very dangerous.

  • Any random potion on this known list; 18% chance of retrieval. If you get this result, consult any licensed alchemist, he/she will easily be able to identify the potion. This is the luckiest result, because the potion's effects won't disappear like other objects pulled from the bag if the potion is drunk.

  • Twenty five locusts; 10% chance of retrieval. As soon as you notice you've pulled this, release your grip and get away. Locusts are never good news.

  • A Shade; 2% chance of retrieval. Don't wonder how you pulled a full sized Shade out and run.

The Bag of Horrors:

Quote :
Name: The Black Helmet

Rarity: Unique

Origin: The Void

Description: The black helmet, even though held up in broad daylight seems to block out any and all light from entering it. This helmet is said to have been created by Shar herself to be worn by her Black Knight.

Pros:

  1. Wards the wearer from all forms of psychic attacks.
  2. Makes the wearer unable to experience fear.
  3. Increases certain physical attributes of the wearer. (OOC: Increases strength and reflexes by roughly 50 %)

Cons:

  1. Corrupts the mind. (OOC: Character MUST turn Chaotic Evil within one day.)
  2. Forces the wearer to serve its creator, Shar. (OOC: Character MUST actively serve Shar)
  3. The wearer will hear unexplainable whispers about dark events in their past.
  4. Wear it for too long and it will corrupt the body. (OOC: Bodily features will change depending on how long you wear it. 1-2 days: eyes will turn completely black. 3-4 days: skin will begin to break and form scars for no reason. A week: blood will turn completely black, and all physical pain will be increased slightly.)

Quote :
Name: Sightless Soldier

Rarity: Rare/Common

Origin: A group of mages enchanted this blindfold for an injured soldier who had lost his eyesight in a battle so he could keep on fighting for his country.

Description: A white blindfold that has "eyes" drawn into it with red ink where eyes would normally be.

Pros:
-Will greatly enhance the wearer's combat skills
-Enhances other senses, such as hearing and touch

Cons:
-Will block your eyesight completely until taken off, provided you have it

Quote :
Name: Alward's Incredibly Comfortable Walking Shoes

Rarity: Unique

Origin: Once a wizard called Alward decided to enchant his shoes to be really comfortable, and so he did.

Description:
Alward's Incredibly Comfortable Walking Shoes

Pros:
-They're reaaaally comfortable to go around with
-The comftiness persist even while standing still and running
-Your feet won't get as tired with these shoes

Cons:
-If you wear the shoes too long, your feet will begin to smell due to natural causes

I have one question about the sword: Is it possible to make a cheap but exact look-alike replica of it?
(as in it's nothing like it besides it's shape and appearance)

I Might have something to suggest later on in this history of this thread.

If your character can do it, then sure. Olden is open-ended enough to allow stuff like that. But I doubt many have heard of it or would be willing to pay much for it.

[WIP]

People should post in here more, by the way. It's a fantastic idea gone to waste, and could potentially provide very good RP for some folks.

Quote :
Name: The Gem of Greed.

http://a.imageshack.us/img261/192/rpmountainvillage0008.jpg

Rarity: One and only.

Origin: ???

Description: A football sized gem of many different colors, very beautiful. It was created by the Gods as a warning for greed and gluttony.

Pros: If the user is has no desire for money and approaches the gem with the purest thoughts of how they can use it's profits to better their fellow man's life, before they even think once of themselves, they will be blessed with Holy-magic sensitive powers. The Gem will then dissapear, to a place where the Gods' wrath against the greedy and gluttons are needed. So far, there has been not one man who passed this test.

HOW TO BE JUDGE BEING GIFTED OF THE POWERS;
Firstly, your character must be good. No evil characters can be blessed with the power.
If you find the gem, contact an admin first.
Do a bit of RP, then as you touch it, !roll. If you roll a 10 or under, congratz, you're blessed, son. If not, the gem will be your death.

Cons:If you look upon this gem with thoughts of partying hard, getting rich and famous, you will descend into insanity. All who have taken this gem have had these thoughts. Many a-owner have starved to death, curled up in a feetle position stroking the gem, thinking about how they could spend it until they died. Kings have been found in their gold safehouses, rolling around in their money while giggling maniacally, the gem in their hands.

In the chance that a man of magic wishes the break the curse of the Greed, he must first isolate the stone's curse from himself. He must then seperate the stone from the cursed person, which can often be violent, as the cursed one will not let go of his/her virtual God too easily. Once the stone is seperated, he must rid of it quickly. Catapult, telekinetic magic, whatever. Once the stone is away, the curse can be broken by one powerful wizard or many others.

Once the gem has been rid of, either by the first holy blessing dissapearance, or by breaking a curse, it can never be found again,

Quote :
Name: The Pompous Nobleman's Stupendous Amassment of Splendid Hattes

Rarity: Just one.

Origin: This hat, which a nobleman owned, was paid to be enchanted. This was no normal enchantment however, the nobleman could pull out other hats to fit the occassion, though, it had a flaw, it did it by random, the nobleman, spoiled and pompous, threw the hat into the fire and walked off grumbling, before slipping over the hat and falling out an open window.

Description: This hat was enchanted for the wearer to be able to reach in and pull out a new hat, though at random. Its a marvelous tophat. On the inside on the tag, it states "The Pompous Nobleman's Stupendous Amassment of Splendid Hattes!"

The Tophat

Pros: If destroyed, it will seemingly appear back out of thin air in the vicinity.

Cons: Its a hat is all.

Quote :
Name: Tim The Tricksters Troubled Deck Of Turmoiling Cards

Rarity: A few.

Origin: This deck of cards was enchanted by Tim The Trickster, when a card is pulled out of it a jet of cards fly out and hit the person, though more of a childs trick, nasty papercuts can be made.

Description: Seemingly a regular deck of cards.

The Deck

Pros: Really cool.

Cons: Papercuts.

Quote :
Name: Rick's Round Repairing Glasses Of Righteousness

Rarity: Just one.

Origin: This pair of round spectacles was enchanted by a mage who was tired of his glasses breaking. So he had enchanted them to repair themselves.

Description: Round glasses with black rims.

Rick's Glasses

Pros: They repair themselves.

Cons: None.

Quote :
Name: The Book Of Binds

Rarity: Three.

Origin: This large, leather-bound book was enchanted by Tim The Trickster himself.

Description: Large, and leather-bound, a title on the front says "The Book Of Binds", quite mysterious.

The Book Of Binds

Pros: Can be used on enemies if they spring it, or to catch a thief or curious eyes. Though it can be held from behind and opened, pages facing the enemy, tieing them up completely. It will never run out of rope, but it still needs to be opened, a dangerous task as there is always a risk of being tied.

Cons: It can tie the owner up.

Quote :
Name: Percy's Mirror

Rarity: One.

Origin: A shrewd, insulting man named Percy was soulbound to this mirror by an angry, powerful witch. He had insulted her new hair style, scoffing. He now resides in it and insults anyone who peers into it. Though he can talk freely, he's too proud and stubborn for most things. Like asking for help.

Description: A beautiful, shining, silver mirror. Though when you look in you can see the face of a lewd, ugly man, white-hair and pointy, crooked nose. He's faded into the mirror, you can still see yourself in it.

Percy's Mirror

Pros: Can hurt your enemies' feelings.

Cons: Can hurt your feelings. Its indestructible.

Quote :
Name: Canned Nuts.

Rarity: Four.

Origin: This product was enchanted by Tim The Trickster. It was supposed to shoot fake snakes out at the opener, but they were recalled because of starving badgers popping out.

Description: An average tin, it had a removable lid. A legitimate looking wrapper on it stating "Madam Bonnets Mixed Nuts! Serving since the ancients!"

Pros: It can be easily carried around.

Cons: When you open it, and you roll a 90+ a starving badger pops out and attacks the opener/those around him/her.

i disagree.

the effort put into them could be used to put into things that weren't obviously non-serious or just a rip off a modern day prank thing you can buy incredibly cheap at a joke store.

like, i dunno, a meaningful rare item.

Quote :
Name: The Wolf's Claws

Rarity: Two

Origin: A tribe was once beset by a maraudering, vast army of expansion, bent on conquering all tribes like it, and uniting them under one flag, to wage futher cruel wars.

The shaman of this tribe prayed feverently to his tribal spirits to be able to best the army in battle, and was rewarded, the night before the army would attack. A huge, black forest wolf stalked into the tribe's settlement, and no one dared attack it. It entered the shaman's tent, and placed before him, in it's teeth, a large pair of claws, not unlike a wolf's.
Spoiler:

The wolf stared at him for a moment, and then left, as if verifying exactly what they were intended for. The shama slipped them on, and was pleased, suddenly imbued with the confidence they would be able to beat back the army the coming day.

The following morning, the army swept into the settlement, and the tribe's force went out to meet them, far smaller. The shaman leaped into the fray, and the rest became a red vision of bloodlust.

He awoke, long after the battle was over, the claws, adn himself, caked in blood. But he was in the nursery of the tribal hall. And there were bloodstains everywhere. A small pair of pale legs stuck out from behind a knocked-over cupboard. The shaman retched, and quickly stumbled out of the nursery, to find the tribal hall in much the same state. He continued on, out of the settlement, and into the battlefield surrounding it.

The army was completely massacred. But it had come at a terrible price. His tribe, and everyone in it, even the children, had also been brutally murdered. He forsook his God, and travelled, until he reached a Port, selling the claws to a local artifact merchant. It is rumoured he then took up work on a ship, but his whereabouts are not known.

Description: Imbued with the fury of the Wolf, the wearer can become enthralled in a battlelust and the weapon causes their ferocity to increase.

Pros: An increase in speed, and strength of fighting, specifically with these weapons.

Cons: As the primal force overtakes the wearer, they become reckless and irrational, sometimes unable to determine friend from foe.

-Extremely hard to retrieve and fashion, thus very expensive.

Quote :
Name: Glowing Skull of a Skeletal Mage

Rarity: Uncommon/Rare

Origin: The skull of an undead mage.

Some spellcasters use them to easen or power up their spells while some tend to collect them. The skull has a tendency to whisper dark thoughts into the mind of it's possessor and may thus subtly indoctrinate them to become crazed dark wizards. A dangerous but valuable artifact.

Pros:

-Valuable.

Cons:
-Whispers dark thoughts to it's possessor and can corrupt them over time.

Quote :
Name: Relentless Phoenix

Rarity: Rare

Origin: Various.

Description: This sword is seemingly an ordinary tempered steel broadsword with phoenixes engraved into the blade and hilt. Great for prolonged battles but is very expensive to make.

Quote :
Name: Avenger's Guard

Rarity: Very Rare.

Origin: Various.

Description: A platemail armor composed of steel, titanium and mithril, making it an excellent, but generally very cumbersome armor to wear. The armor has been enchanted with two different effects, which makes it far more expensive than it already is. One to make it lighter and somewhat more maneuverable. The second enhancement imbues the armor with a shield to protect the user if an ally is killed or severely injured during a battle nearby them. The shield will absorb a few consecutive hits before shattering, though multiple deaths of allies strenghten and prolong the existing shield. The shield may also be used to create an offensive, directed blast of energy.

Pros:

-The shield may stack.

Cons:
-Cumbersome.
-The enchantment only works against dark creatures, beings or spells.
-Difficulty of obtaining one.

Quote :
Name: Everbright Lantern

Rarity: Uncommon

Origin: Various.

Description: An enchanted lantern that will illuminate an area better than ordinary lanterns and will not run out of fuel. The lantern is also a bit more sturdy than most normal ones, but if it's broken, its enchantment will disperse and the lantern'll become an ordinary one.

Pros:
