He's elvish, though he doesn't act like one, and incredibly scruffy, with short, messy blonde hair. While he likes to scurry about like a rat, and speaks Sidan - not elvish - he is incredibly obedient, and does what he's told, determined to be a good little guard.

I can think of at least 3 things wrong with this.

The Guard doesn't employ 9 year olds. What was Hook on?

That kid's as good as dead, with what the Guard has to deal with on a daily basis.

Thorn did it, of course. He's not officially employed either, he doesn't receive a paycheck or anything like that. He just hangs around the keep and trains for the good part of six days a week. That and he gets his meals and lodgings with the rest of the men.
