| Age: The ages of each bugs inside varies, the sentient consciousness of the Swarm itself is 5. Gender: The Swarm is made up by bugs of either sex, it will refuse to identity itself by a gender. Race: The Swarm is entirely made up by different bugs ranging from your usual cockroaches, to bees, and even poisonous centipedes. Birthplace: Somewhere in the gigantic forests of Talibar. Skills / Abilities : Hive Mind - An unique creature of Olden, the Swarm cannot technically be classified as 'him' or 'her'. The swarm itself is made from thousands of bugs joined together that decides an action based on the consensus of each other, a democracy if you will. A creature inside the swarm is linked with the other several thousands, every thought in the swarm is heard by him, and his thought is heard by the others. The link itself is inseparable unless the creature is severed from the Hive Mind, such as being left behind during an escape or captured by a jar while trailing behind. This ability can lead to such advantages such as able to report enemies behind the Swarm or noticing most what most people cannot due to the each creature's different ways of 'seeing'. Although only bugs at heart, the Swarm itself seems to be grow more intelligent as the population of the Hive Mind grows. Assimilation - Imbued by magic, the core of the Swarm sends a pheromone that entices creatures that people would call 'bugs' to come near and be assimilated into the Swarm. Upon joining the Hive Mind, that bug will instantly gain sentience and create a voice that is detailed above. The Swarm is obsessed with assimilating others into their ranks, not for power or lust, but rather expand their capacity to understand and gain new 'brothers' into the Swarm, implying it desires social contact. It also should be noted it is incapable of assimilating gigantic insects and as well unable to assimilate spiders, in fact, the Swarm fears the Arachnids. It's not uncommon to find lone dead spiders wherever Swarm goes. Assemble/Dissemble - The Swarm has learned that fleeing is a better option than fight someone head on, and would often do the old proverb of 'scattering like roaches'. If it senses danger it cannot overcome, the entire body of the Swarm will collapse from it's humanoid form until it resembles a long carpet of bugs, then attempt to escape. Despite the odd appearance of 'dying', the Swarm is perfectly capable of reassembling itself upon finding a safe spot. Meaning it can flee and scatter under tight spots where small bugs can crawl through, such as pipes, doorways, and holes, then reassemble itself into it's humanoid form once finding an appropriate spot. Poison / Swarming - In the event the Swarm is attacked and must defend itself, or to find non-humanoid food, it is willing to fight. Despite it's nature of trying to avoid conflicts other with sentient beings like humans or elves, it is not totally defenesless. Being made up of thousands of bugs, it is more than capable of fighting with it's poison or sheer numbers. It's preferred method of attacking is deceiving the aggressor that he is of humanoid origin, before 'exploding' and literally swarming the target with the entire Hive, biting, stinging, eating, and even ripping is all fair game to the Swarm. However, as if it's nature, it avoids conflict and rather be the aggressor when hunting for food in the forest. It's attacks are also poisonous thanks to the fact many venomous creatures such as the centipede and amongst others contribute to the Swarm. Biography: - Spoiler:
Despite it's lifelong mission being understanding or learning the world around it, The Swarm doesn't know if it's own origins. Neither do they attempt to theorize how they became so, believing it to be wasted effort. Unknown to the them, the creation of the Swarm should be credited to a disgruntled mage in Talibar. More notorious than famous, he was known as the local nutjob in the nearby settlements, and his theories discredited for being 'stupid'. The mage was obsessed with entomology, further alienating him from the people as they consider it strange. Frustrated with his failed attempts to gain in the world, he moved out to the forest to study, believing it is in the stomach of the giant forests, he'll find his calling. Creating a small hut, he started an experiment to create a new species of insects which would be understood by humans. After all, being able to communicate with insects to predict the next swarming phase would greatly benefit those who work in agriculture and save crops in his mind. Using one of the greatest survivors in Olden, the cockroach, he tested his spell. Unfortunately, from his point of view, it failed. The cockroaches showed no attempt to communicate or show any sign of intelligence like he intended. Once again frustrated, he left the hut to try forget his wasted efforts. Where he went after is unknown, probably working in a farm where he's actually useful.
Unbeknownst to the poor mage however, his experiment succeeded. Well, partially. The cockroaches have indeed changed into something, and been imbued to be different than the others. He was merely impatient, the Swarm then was too 'young'. As time went by, various arthropods and insects has found themselves attracted to the strange hut, entering it without knowing what's going on. As more insects entered the hut, the Swarm grew 'older', growing more intelligence, and astoundingly, the natural enemies and preys in the hut refused to attack each other. Instead, it decided to cooperate, they found themselves in awe, as if they were linked together. After enough numbers gathered, they left the hut to hunt. Not as smart however. The Swarm wasn't always a humanoid , it started out something worse.
Even though the Swarm has grown older and bigger than it's first phase, it hasn't assimilated enough to it's Hive Mind to be truly self-aware. Instead, the Swarm started out as a big carpet of eating machines, indiscriminately eating anything it found in it's path like a mindless animal. Using it's sheer numbers and the advantage of having poison, it was able to easily take down less threatening creatures such as dogs, birds, and other animal inhabitants of the forest. Sooner, even humans and elves, if they were found alone. As it ate, it grew, constantly assimilating others into their ranks, to the point such insects like the Ant Queen would rather avoid the Swarm than confront them in order to keep her ants as her own. Unlike the Swarm now, it did not assimilate knowingly or assimilate to expand their capacity to understand or evolve, rather it assimilated unconsciously, thinking noting of the growing numbers.
The final phase started after it reached four years of existence, and it would be realized it would be their saddest. As they grew enough to be fully aware of themselves, they also grew enough to feel emotion, the most stunning one being:
"REMORSE"
It realized for majority of it's existence, it was noting but a mindless animal that consumes anything that comes infront of it. Although saddened by the fact and almost disbanding in an attempt to do their style of suicide, they realized something else as well. Everything was new. Being mere insects before, they only thought of survival and hunger. Now as they found a new reason of their existence, something replaced their hunger of physical food. The hunger for knowledge. Like a restless child, it set out to learn. While having an intellect of a child back then, it wasn't totally stupid to the point they just barged in there asking for cookies. Rather, they observed and watched, soon taking advantage of it's numbers to take a humanoid shape, even trying to mimic the face of a human. (Look to the picture of above). But knowing they'll get attacked whether the mass of insects took an appearance of humanoid or not, they used robes along with gloves to disguise themselves. Only appearing at night, it surprisingly blended in with the others, keeping it's head down, and staying silent as best as it can. After a year, it was able to the learn the Common language, broken, but still able to speak. And he continues to roam, trying to learn the new world around them. And the only thing the Swarm stood out against others, was it's strange odor.
It was also the day they finally chose themselves a name, something that would not individualize anyone in the link.
"Swarm"
TL;DR - Spoiler:
Disgruntled mage uses spells on some cockroaches to create a new communicable species, thinks he failed, Swarm is born first as a mindless eating machine, keeps growing, gains sentience and self-awareness, takes humanoid form and wanders the city at night to learn and observe their new setting in awe.
Alignment: True Neutral. Despite it's demonic appearance with the swarming insects, it's not even close to being malevolent, if anything, they could be described as calm and stoic, wishing peace over conflict. The Swarm merely wishes to observe, learn, and understand the world around them. It doesn't wish to learn the politics of Olden nor do they wish to take a side in a conflict or war, it only wishes to observe. However, obviously, if there was a war with a great evil threatening the world, Swarm would take the 'good' guy's sides.
Favored Enemy: Anything without an armor or related to fire. Their stingers are unable to penetrate even leather, and most full steel armors restricts Swarm entering inside. And they consider fire as their greatest bane. Any opponent that has the ability to create or use fire would be avoided as it cause great casualties to the swarm. One of their darkest days came from attacking a Gnoll that retaliated in using burning arrows. The result of those fiery attacks almost regressed the Swarm back into it's mindless phase from losing so many of their brethren within themselves.
Deity: Officially none. While some of the sentient self-aware bugs part of the Hive Mind have publically declared it believed in some deities such as Chauntea, Oghma, or Lathander, they have all agreed not to worship any of the gods in order to keep stability and cohesion within the swarm.
Current Task: Assimilate and convert more into the Hive Mind to 'grow' and expand it's knowledge by learning the world around it. Although they wouldn't publically admit it, they also wish for friends. ( woosh, it's done. Any how, if this character is too bad or not fitting within the canon of AeriaRP, please say so. I wanted to try out this type of character because I thought it'd be something new and challenging to roleplay. Aaand, I really tried to make this application look pretty, but I wouldn't know how to decorate forum post if my life depended on it. C&C is also accepted~ )

| Two problems;
Olden isn't the name of the land, it's Aeria. Olden is just a poor name for the community that people use so they don't have to call the community something good like 'Aeria & Eshira' or 'Sweet Pat and Hella Mack'.
Also, this seems to be more of a 'special character' in the vein that it's monstrous and powerful. New members are not allowed to play special characters.
I don't want to dump this character in 'Failed', because you put a lot of work into this, it seems. What I can do is keep this in 'Archive' until the other admins and I agree that you're trustworthy.
In the mean time, are you fine with making a more "normal" character? Forget about power, normal characters all grow to be powerful. It's just that it will be easier for you and others roleplaying with you for other characters to interact and develop. Trust me, there will be few characters willing to pity Swarm, mostly people trying to devise ways to kill it.

| This is a pretty awesome character, but I have to agree with Psyche. We'll stick it in the Archive, and later on, if you prove yourself capable, you can play it. | |
