Nyére, Tattooed Priestess of Illmatyr Tattooed_Priestess%20(570%20x%20399)

Name: Nyére
Age:22
Gender:Female
Race:Half elf
Birthplace:Cramiche

Appearance:
Build: Scrawny
Weight: Featherweight
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Hazel
Skin:Very pale
Tattoos: Nyére is covered head to toe in tattoos, most of which are permanent though several are simply temporary and serve to connect her to those she heals for a short time. All of the tattoos serve a purpose and most are in the shape of specific seals and wards, which shall be better explained further down.

Alignment:
Neutral Good

Personality:
As a living Martyr of Illmatyr, Nyére has devoted every fiber of her body and soul to help others. While she is more than willing to help those in need, she is greatly withdrawn, slow to trust and slower to befriend. Part of this can be blamed on her position with Illmatyr as his Martyr's seldom come into contact with anyone who is not already within the priesthood. Driven by her traumatic past, she's plunged herself into an oath that literally dehumanizes her for the sake of others leaving her with little of a life to call her own.

Biography:
Born as Sendriana in 768 MoP, Nyére was the bastard child of a young human woman who shared a all too brief encounter with a wandering elven bard. Growing up she was shunned by her
predominantly Messianic Tyrist family who, like many Talibarians, still followed the ways of the Prophet Inarius. This alienation forced Sendriana to look to her elven heritage for some sense of belonging and it wasn't long before most of her time was spent amongst the elven district's taverns and inns, seeking for any companionship she might find. It was there in one of the countless taverns that she met Narris, a young elven dockworker who had recently arrived in town and the two quickly became close.

Things quickly began to go downhill, however, as Sendriana soon found herself with child at no older then fourteen. She managed to hide it for the first few months but as her belly began to grow her relatives caught on almost immediately. Her family, already disgraced by her mother's seduction at the hands of an elf, handed Sendriana over to the Messianic Priests who were quick to beat the name of her lover out of her. Taking justice into their own hands, they made their way down to the docks where they found Narris, throwing him into the bay before pelting him with stones until one caught him in the temple, sending him sliding below the surface to his grave. Forced to watch, the desperate Sendriana lept in after him, where a stray stone caught her in the stomach and forced her into miscarriage.

Riddled with grief Sendriana knew she could no longer remain in Cramiche with the family that had taken all she held dear. Donning little more then a cloak she stole herself away in the dead of night, abandoning her old life and all it held. Her life now devoid of the only kindness she had only known she considered suicide, but could not bring herself to end her own life. Instead, taking the name of Nyére (Elven for Sorrow) she made her way to one of Cramiche's few Illmatyric temples, where she would pledge her life to others as one of the Living Martyrs, hoping that through her pain, others might never know the loss that haunted her very dreams.

Living Martyrdom
The Living Martyrs represent the highest commitment possible to the teachings of Illmatyr, God of Suffering, Supplication, and Martyrdom. These individuals offer their bodies, minds and souls for the sole purpose of easing the pain of others. While priests of Illmatyr are able to ease the physical trauma on the body through the use of healing magic they are unable to help should the victim be suffering from excessive depression, pain or anguish. It is then that the Martyr's are used as vessels, taking the pain from a victim's very soul and mind into their own body, to suffer the other's hardships. In addition to this, the pain stored in their bodies acts as a form of energy, which is then siphoned off by Priests for use in healing rituals of the sick and wounded. However, acting as a conduit through which the deep mental and physical anguish of others passes often results in a rapid deterioration of the Martyr's mind and body. This deterioration can result in chronic pain, hallucinations, frequent nightmares, fits of depression, and, in extreme cases, bouts of sleepwalking in which the Martyr seeks to cause harm to themselves or others. In these most extreme cases, the Martyr must often be physically restrained while sleeping. Furthermore, Martyrs are often unable to learn magic themselves, being unable to concentrate through the pain in order to successfully weave even the simplest of spells, thus the need for the priests and the tattoos. Yet, even after all their pain and suffering very few Martyrs even come into contact with the patients they help as the Priesthood prefers to keep their methods a secret, knowing full well that very few people would willingly pour their grief and sadness into another human being and so, more often then not these individuals are kept isolated in their worlds of pain and strife from the world in which they serve with every breath.

Tattoos
The most notable feature of the Martyrs are their full body tattoos which are applied soon after joining. These tattoos allow the Martyr to have their sacred field connected to that of another through certain rituals, although further temporary tattoos are required to specify who and which way the transfer of pain or energy is to go. These temporary tattoos are made with a mixture of various sacred inks and the blood of the intended connection, which is then tattooed onto a specific point of the Martyr's body and gradually dissipates as the sacred fields split apart until eventually nothing remains of the old tattoo. Furthermore each tattoo is specifically tuned for a certain degree of pain transference which a Priest decides upon depending on the patient, the level of pain and the severity of the wound. If a patient experiences a sudden surge of pain too high for the tattoo in question will shatter, causing a sudden and huge backlash of pain to both patient and martyr.

Tasks:
Serve any in need at whatever the cost: Eternal.

I just want to offer Pat my huge, undying thanks. I literally couldn't of got this all proper and whatnot without him dragging me along since as most of you probably know I bloody hate character pages. Thanks again mate.

I already talked a lot to you about this character and I think it's a cool idea, so I give it my approval. But I just wonder, if she's such a shut-in, why is she roaming around?

Oh I plan on having her do plenty of that aforementioned sleepwalking to get her out and about.

One should note that this character is part of an order of complete pacifists, and has no combat skills whatsoever. While she may have a great deal of magical potency, her chronic pain makes it impossible for her to concentrate enough to cast a spell, and any potential is being used as raw healing energy by the Church of Illmatyr.

Looks lore perfect, and definitely an interesting character you have here Ruta. I'd accept.

Pat and I have talked about this, and I sort of like the character. So I'm going to accept it without further ado.

Added a bit to the "Tattoo" section to eliminate the possibility of Tattoo tanking thanks to the pain transferring process.
