In the times after the Sharic slaughter, the villages of the Heartland became very wary of their population. There had always been laws in place against Vampires and Necromancers, but now the people of towns were very worried about the possibility of these sorts in their vicinity. That's when the inquisitions started. Many towns created councils and elected locals they thought skilled enough to investigate, they needed people who were accurate in their deduction of who and who wasn't of sharic influence, and how they could be handled. In the town of Deltuin, they had Solus.
He was the son of an undertaker, and possessed alongside his cold, calculative disposition, a keen set of eyes, and a sense of what was dead, and what was not. He was familiar with the looks of something that should be dead, how pale it was, how a limp limb looked, and that dead that seemed to linger behind their eyes. When presented with the challenge to identify the vampire out of three men that had been captured, he pointed to one, and then pressed a silver coin to his face. The coin sizzled. It was not long before Solus was selected to be the town's head inquisitor, he was a young man of twenty, but he showed he had a sense of these sorts of things, and because of that, he was sent to train.
He traveled with a caravan of traders, funded by his town's taxes and some of the money that a local noble had donated to the cause of an inquisition. In one week's time, he found himself alongside thirty three other men, all of whom had come from various towns around the province, and they were trained. The training was grueling, including physical exercise, and hours of lecture. The elected thirty four learned of the nature of vampires, what they needed, what they were capable of, and the thirty four learned of the necromancers. One necromancer even spoke to the group, he had been reformed, being allowed a second chance so long as he best instructed the thirty four on how to fight his kind. And so they learned.
Weapon-handling was taught. They were taught how to use firearms, and swordplay. With swords, Solus was a bit slow, not being lucid and quick enough to handle the oncoming blows of his opponent, but with firearms, he did well. He took a silent joy in the slow and silent moments before firing the weapon, and the calculation that came before kill.
Solus was behind most in his mastery of weapons, but in terms of identification, he excelled. Other members of the thirty four would look at him strangely during the weekly roundup, when all those currently accused of necromancy or vampirism were arranged in front of them, for Solus was always right. A silver coin was pressed to the face of everyone he accused of vamprism, and it sizzled. And evidence held to support everyone he accused of necromancy. He progressed well, his keen eyes becoming more precise, and his sense of what was dead pushing him far. He trained for a year, then returned with a caravan similar to the one he left with.
Solus' inquisition reigned for one year in total. And in one year every vampire and Necromancer of Deltuin was gone. It was an incredibly swift achievement on his part, as the only one that came close to his took four years, with a town a third the size of his. All the other inquisitors were much stronger and swifter than Solus, but they didn't have the eyes. With his inquisition completed, Solus sold the swords and guns given to him to complete the task, keeping one matchlock pistol, and returned to his job as an Undertaker, where time passed.
As the years progressed, his physique faded, and his time as an inquisitor became dreamlike. Memories were surrendered to the day to day work of a funeral director, and whatever heroism that accompanied him as the inquisitor faded as the town died out. An illness had taken several, and though their deaths meant work for Solus, more people were moving out of town than those dying, and he had to join those leaving. It had been thirteen years since his time as an inquisitor, and he was moving to Surna.
Skills
Swordsmanship
Spoiler:
It has been a long while since Solus has wielded a sword, and although in usage some remnants of the skill once there shows, he is easily defeated by any enthusiast.
Firearms
Spoiler:
Solus still remembers well how to use a firearm, how to load and fire, how to put away. The devices reminded him of the bodies he arranged, and because of that, he held them closer in his memories. His aim however, has far wavered from the precision it once held, and although he is capable of hitting a still target with some time and luck, a moving target would prove very difficult.
Alchemy
Spoiler:
Solus uses alchemy in his day to work as an Undertaker. He is experienced in brewing only what he knows, and though given time he could master another formula, he sees no need to.
Known Formulas
Rigor Mortis
Spoiler:
A potion that is injected into the flesh of a dead body. It moisturizes the body and then hardens, making the bodies much stiffer than they usually are, becoming more like stone than flesh. Used after the viewing, and only on the dead, to prevent ease of use after resurrection.
Permanence
Spoiler:
A potion that is applied to the skin of a corpse. It nearly halts the process of decomposition, and keeps the body looking fresh for a lifetime after it's placed in the ground. It is used to amplify the use of Rigor Mortis in combating necromancy, making the corpses much harder to strip of their muscles to turn to skeletons.
Observance
Spoiler:
Despite his many years of dropped duty, this is a skill that has hardly faded in his time as a funeral director. Solus' eyes mixed with his intelligence can help give him an edge in determining what kind of a person he's dealing with at the time. His immediate determination of whether or not a person is of Sharic nature is long passed though. He could muster a guess, but only after long periods of observance.

I like this character. His back story is interesting, and I like the idea of town elected inquisitors. (Not the Prophetesq sort, mind) I find the idea of alchemy versus the undead fascinating, and I'm interested in what you'll do with him.
Accepted.

Pretty much, and he makes good chemistry with the rest of the server (You know how there's always that.. goofy overtone with Olden, Solus is serious enough to bring some fresh air into the mix)

Haha, this is awesome. I really love the way his backstory is so rounded and unique, especially his reasons for coming to Surna.
Also his Sherlock-y skills of observation and being able to tell the kind of person he's dealing with is ace.

Really sounds like Sherlocks Holmes.
Don't disappoint us, like the new movie series by that douche of an actor.

Go to bed, Kruggly.
This is an interesting character concept, in the sense that it's a sort of alchemist, but his concoctions aren't like normal potions. He seems to be a little young for a mastermind detective, (Inquisitor at age 24?) but I suppose that's because Aeria doesn't have the health care that modern times do.

I actually did think long and hard about his age. Because I wanted to make him older, but then I looked and saw that everyone else was in their early twenties. It felt horribly awkward making him in his later forties and early fifties only so he can wander around and talk with all those young folk. And I still wanted him to have some life in his bones, so it would make sense for him to be using a sword or gun and not sitting and whining about his liverspots and thinning hair, but at the same time, I still wanted him to have distance between his inquisitor days and the present, so a considerable skill degrade would make sense.
Then I said fuck it and wrote it the way it is because medieval times.
