Biography:Tyler was born as the fourth child into a growing family, headed mainly by his father. He was a shopkeeper who dealed mostly in exotic goods, specialising in the soft silks and cloths that could be found in Sida. In the town that he grew up in, such commodities were rare and therefore highly prized. Dale Westwood, as was his name, was indeed a very loved man in the town - and especially within his family.
At the age of fourteen, however, Tyler would see his father taken away from him. In the dead of night, after countless rows hidden from his children, a jealous sister-in-law disapproving of her own sister's marriage to Dale took a blade to his throat, and murdered him in his very sleep. Tyler's mother woke almost instantly, screaming and turning the blade on her husband's murderer. With a flurry of vicious stabs, she too would find herself going cold in the coating of her own blood.
His mother went on to continue her profession as a woodcutter, the unusually strong woman she was, and taught herself to cope with the sudden loss of her husband. She would never stop mourning him, but she knew how to hide her grief until the work was done. Tyler apprenticed in his mother's trade, following his only parent to become a strong-armed and dedicated woodsman. This gave him a knowledge of the woodcutter's axe, and a muscular tone to his body.
However, his mother eventually had greater visions for him, wishing him to go into trading. Tyler was 18 at the time, and decided that wasn't the path he wanted to take. Letting out her withheld anger, his mother spurned him and cursed his name, effectively driving him from the village. It was then that he decided to travel abroad.
He was 19 when he volunteered for military service, under the flag of a local Sanctimonian regiment. They trained for five months, before battle called upon them. Tyler's helmet barely fit when he was marched into line, carrying a long pike alongside a large square of the men he had trained with. They all seemed a lot more dedicated than he was, to fight for a cause he barely even knew about. When the army finally met it's opposition, a bloody conflict ensued. The first volley of arquebus from the enemy lines was inefficient, failing to halt the Sanctimonian advance, but the second was much more effective. Men and friends fell dead instantly around him, and those who were wounded were soon trampled upon as they writhed in pain. Tyler was exposed, just as the order to charge was given once their own arquebus had fired. Men swarmed around him, and he finally unfroze himself once a few ranks had passed him. They were quickly cut down, to his horror, owing to the lack of leadership from an inexperienced general. Tyler would not be scared by this, finding a sudden courage to charge forwards with his pike and impale a few men, easily piercing their armor. It was not enough to sway the battle, however, and soon they were being massacred.
He valued his own life more than the battle's outcome, turning on his heels and making for the flank of the army. He was blocked just before his freedom, by an incredibly tall man, wielding a long hammer in one hand and a battleaxe in the other. Immediately, he swung for Tyler, with a roar to split the heavens. The impact of his hammer shook the floor, with a sickeningly dead thudding sound and a wide spray of dirt. Spurred on by panic, and an unexpected determination, the young boy took up his pike, breaking it over his knee to form a sword-length spear weapon - and upon ducking the swipe of the battleaxe, only barely, managed to stab the broken pike through the back of the warrior's knee. He fell, with another cry, as Tyler swiftly and somewhat mercilessly tore the spearhead free and spun round to ram it through his forehead. The crack of his skull sent vibrations through Tyler's arm. It was horrifying. People cheered, and quickly went back to battle, but he didn't feel like a hero. Especially not when he turned around once more, and ran for his life along with around six others.
Those six others would become loyal partners, forming a group of fledgling mercenaries that travelled for around two years until the army found him once more, and forced him and his companions onto the battlefield once more.
Effectively forced to fight now, he put all his heart into it. Tyler fought so fiercely in fact, that he was promoted within three battles and was seen as a model for the troops to look up to. This loyalty towards him would be put to use in the most devious of ways, though, once he realised that his oppression from the military could end - as it could for every man he would go on to lead in his mutiny.
And that he did, overthrowing the captains and general of the military camp he was stationed in, fighting his way out and to freedom. Though not joining up with his previous companions, he was now free to take his skills wherever they would lead, in the many towns of the Sanctimonian nation.
Noteworthy skills and abilities:Sword & Shield-- Tyler has always favoured the sword and shield, even during his military time he always yearned for the sword. He is by no means any martial expert, but he can hold his own in a fight. Ever since he left the military, he has used nothing but his sword and shield throughout his travels. --
Basic combat tactics-- Due to his time in the military, he has learned to hold a basic situational awareness, and he's quite gifted at leading 10-man groups effectively in battle. --
Pain threshold-- Tyler has recieved many injuries during both his military service and his mercenary life, and thanks to this he can take more of a beating than any average man. --
