"Before you can teach a dog to bite, you must first know how to bite someone yourself."
Full Name: Vedran Kestrel Nickname: N/A Age: 33 Height: ~1.80 meters; ~5'10" Gender: Male. Birthplace: A non-descript large town in Sanctimonia. Languages: Sidan; Common; Occitanian. Faction association: The Cartel Rank/position: Khelim
Skill(s):
Dog Training & Handling
{ | | | | | | | | | | }
Most would say it is an odd skill to have. But dogs are according to Vedran a great and powerful tool. Over his whole life he has learned how to train and command dogs to near perfection, almost glowing with calm and commanding energy.
Warhammer

There isn't much to Vedran's style of combat with his warhammer. He swings with the blunt end to crack, and the spiked end to pierce. He knows how to get a good blow in, but relies too much on Rashid and brute force to down his opponents quickly, rather than stay in prolonged melee.
Biography:
Vedran was born the child of a weaver, but at the age of six was orphaned. Forced to live on the streets, he quickly took to criminal life and started dealing with petty gangs and street thugs. Unlike most other children, Vedran had a knack for brute force and strength, so was never much relied on for the quick and dexterous movement most other children were known for. During his childhood Vedran showed a great love for the stray dogs found around the city, and even befriended the most vicious dogs that most inhabitants simply kept away from.
After five years of scrambling together some very humble food and shelter for each night by working for smaller gangs and thieves, at the age of eleven he was found by a mercenary visiting locally. The mercenary brought him along, seeing it as a simple good deed to get the boy out of his criminal life and teach him an atleast half-honest profession. During their travels, the mercenary taught Vedran everything he had ever known, from how to intimidate people to fighting.
At the age of thirteen the two had been brought to Sida by their travels, looking for wealthy merchant caravans to sign onto as protection. But disaster struck when the mercenary was killed in a dispute in Sida involving a mercenary company very unfond of freelance mercenaries. Vedran spent the next four months alone on the streets of Sida, except for the stray dogs that would always flock to him and keep him company.
After the beginning of the fifth month, he was discovered by a servant of the Quintana family who discovered his amazing talent for dogs and brought him in to work as a dog-breeder for the family. Even though he was very young, he excelled with the dogs.
At this point he only spoke when spoken to, and mostly kept it short. His short but clear commands to the dogs were always well-recieved, and it seemed like any dog would lay down their life for him if he was to demand it.
At the age of seventeen his skill with weapons and his constant keeping of a dog at his side made the father consider him the prime candidate for his young daughter's bodyguard. He has spent the rest of his life at her side throughout her many travels, both him and his dog companion silently watching and guarding.

Rashid
Rashid is a dog of the Sidan breed called "Kangal". The Kangals are mostly used as watchers and protectors for herds and families. Favoured for their massive strength and watchful eye, these massive dogs are most commonly used to take down predators and thieves trying to do ill to a family or their herd. Due to their size and strength however, they never hunt anyone down. They simply place themselves between the threat and whatever they are protecting, and should the assailant not back down the Kangal will launch an attack and try to get a hold of the throat of the target, even if not actively provoked.
Rashid was born roughly 8 years ago, and Vedran immediately picked up on the dog and took him for his own. For his entire life Rashid has been trained by Vedran as a faithful companion and guard, serving ever faithfully to his master.

He's very powerful. Both with his proficiency in hammering dudes into shreds and sicing his dog (which has strength not outlined in this application, but can be assumed to be extremely deadly and well-trained due to the fact that his master's training skill is so ridiculously high).
If it's a normal dog, it'll get cut to shreds by anyone who knows how to use a sword and this is perfectly balanced to me. But I don't think it'd be fair to the player, because their prized attack dog will be mincemeat in just a few turns. On the other hand, if it's much stronger than a normal dog, it doesn't make too much sense either.
I'm not rejecting this character. In fact, I like the character. But he's a captain of a presumably very dangerous cartel and a master with huge hammers and has something of a blank check for a pet. I'm hesitant for this sort of power to be given to anyone that isn't an admin or mod. It seems like it'll be great for RP, but there's so many villains already, aren't there?
I guess whether I will accept or reject is based mostly on how aggro the Cartel will be and how easy it will be to piss them off. If this character gets easily angered or will be often attacking those who can't match them in combat (or don't wish to fight)...it'll have to be a reject. But if you can keep his power in check and not be letting the dog loose through town to maul innocents and stuff like that, I can hesitantly toss this an accept.

To be honest I don't see too much fighting in this character's future. And the Cartel aren't per-say very evil, they're simply an organization that doesn't follow the law very carefully when there's money involved. But they would never go around smashing people into the ground for the hell of it.
Vedran and Rashid are everything but an offense. They're more a deterrent than anything else, but will gladly fight if anybody does decide to not back down.
And to be honest, he's not really a master in combat. As the skill description says, there's not much to learn about combat with a warhammer. Once you figure out the basic principal of using the hammer to smash and the spike to pierce, then it's not really much more you can do without going into another field.
In short, Vedran and Rashid won't be starting fights, but they will be ending any started against themselves or the Cartel. And the warhammer skill really doesn't have as much too it as it seems.
