Marlene grasps the very basics of spellcasting, but that is as far as her skill goes.
Marlene was born to a fairly wealthy family of three, father Grodrick, mother Inesya and an older child, now a big brother to Marlene, Hanmar. Marlene was a healthy and welcome addition to her parents, and perhaps a target of jealousy to her older brother. The trading port in which Marlene lived with her family was a fairly quiet place, save for the docks which seemed to always be busy with traders, fishermen and other sailors, always loading and unloading items. Even at a very young age, the taverns of the docks always seemed to interest Marlene, perhaps mostly because her father worked in one of them and would often give her treats and juice for free.
In the town's school, Marlene did fairly well and wasn't the least popular kid in her class although, alike most children, sitting in the classroom didn't manage to keep her interested for too long. When she was old enough to take a bit of responsibility, she begun to help her dad with the barkeeping, mostly with cleaning things and carrying tankards around. She was always paid a few coins for her troubles by her dad, but the majority of the money she managed to gather were tips from kind sailors.
At the age of 15, Marlene was working full time in the tavern of her father. Despite her being in her teens, or perhaps because, she was often getting different suggestions and lewd compliments from the taverngoers. Quite frequently she was also offered a plentiful 'tip' in exchange for some the favors suggested by the drunken patrons, which she learned to fairly quickly refuse with a polite slap or swing of a broom. Her relationships tended to be short termed with anyone she chose to tag along with, with a couple exceptions. Over the years to eventual adulthood Marlene finished the town's school and continued working in the inn she was grown familiar and fond of. She had grown to a charming and fair young woman whom tended to catch the eye of weary sailors, dockworkers and the odd adventurer who was passing through the town, although she never hesitated to grab her trusty broom and sweep the disorderly patrons outside. Despite the often tiring routine, she would have swapped it for very little for years to come.
The small port and the little tavern continued to work around the clock despite the occasional hardships and accidents typical to a port. Wanderers passed by, adventurers and monster hunters looking for work. Magic was still fairly common in the port and looked up to, more so than the advanced machinery sometimes brought in from other cities and larger towns. Most of the young folk attented to the town school where they were taught, in addition to more mundane things, magic and its history. Perhaps unlike many other towns, Kvilm did not frown on some more questionable types of magic and several teachers even encouraged the responsible use of these practices. At least until a young demonologist with something to prove went too far.
The day started as a very typical one autumn one, brisk albeit a little gloomy. The demonologist was in his home, drawing intricate runes with chalk and ash over the floor. He whispered different chants to himself and each sigil he drew would respond with faint glow. It was the first time he would attempt to summon a demon by himself, but he knew he couldn't fail. He had done it several times before. Before long the circle was complete and he began his incantations to draw forth a demon and bind it to his will. Everything went as supposed until the portal opened, and instead of a small or even medium sized demon, a large fiend burst out. It peered around the guarding faulty guarding circle and thanked the demonologist for so kindly opening the door. The young and terrified sorcerer tried to banish the demon where it had came from, but it was to no avail. Before he could even finish the weave to try it, he was grabbed and flung into the portal.
The demon forced the portal wide open and commanded his minions to pour through. Before anyone realized what was happening, the cadre of demons burst out of the demonologist's house and immediately begun to sow chaos, their numbers steadily increasing. The surprised town watch and militia were taken down rapidly before they had much of a chance to form a defence. What was left of the defenders started to evacuate the civilians to ships and carriages. Several of these transports were cut short and set ablaze by the rampaging force of demons before they could flee from the city the demons had started to eagerly torch. Luckily for Marlene, her family was among the first to be taken away due to their distance to the port. Hundreds of people had managed to flee with at least a thousand more trapped and slaughtered by the hellish flash mob. The evacuation ships and carriages scattered without much of a plan, each drifting to a different location. Marlene, with her family, ended up in a port along the Sword Coast. With a wistful farewell to her family mere days after they had arrived, she set out for Surna with a plan, using majority of her savings to reach the city of heroes.

Autoplay is acceptable in character themes, so go soak your heads. Unless you have, you know, valid feedback.
Here's some feedback.
I have music on in the background and don't want to hear the music you post as your themesong whenever I go into the thread. Make it optional, for the love of god. There is literally NO reason to have autoplay. If people want to hear the song you chose, they'll hit play. And if you hit "go to last unanswered post", maybe you don't want to hear the music because you're not reading the page itself. Well, you're sent to the bottom of the first page, and you have to scroll all the way up and pause the music.
Not to mention when you open 3 newly posted characters and you get a jumbled mess of three different songs covering whatever else you were listening to.
Autoplay is not acceptable, so go soak your dick.

A way to actually not have any issues with autoplay. -Pause the music when you hear it. By god, are you all that lazy?

Mack has a bit of a point, opening multiple tabs is often ear-rape- as lovely as the song is.
I'll play the song anyway when I read.

I hope Mack, Munroe and Psyche enjoy their well deserved day ban. Next autoplay abuser will get a week, no questions asked. To whom it may concern, unless autoplay use is banned by majority vote, they will stay as part of my character threads. That is final.
Edit: Psyche may've been banned on false grounds and will be unbanned. However, let this still serve as a warning.
