Race: Aasimar Christoph Save The_angelic_host

A romanticized visage of a pure Aasimar warrior.

At a Glance

Quote :
The Aasimar are a race blessed with holy energy, created shortly after the end of the god war (more on that later). A nomadic people, these beings whilst originally from Talibar(Now Sanctimonia) usually exist far to the east, traveling in caravans several hundred large. Due to this fact, it is incredibly rare for one to be seen outside of his community.

The exact numbers of this population are entirely speculation, as most caravans will go years without encountering any civilization. Usually acting through proxies to obtain what they need. This has caused most members to be xenophobic. Building upon this isolation is the strong sense of racial, and religious unity. They refer to themselves as the 'Chosen People'. not without good reason. Due to their high rarity, many tales and legends have evolved around them, often mistaking them for angels.

The caravans are organized around religion, with the priests occupying the most important slot. Whilst there is no de jure cast system, a de facto one usually arises within most caravans. The priests occupy the central rung, then the mothers, then the warriors, artisans, scavengers and so on. It's important to note that Aasimar place a high amount of reverance around their females, especially their mothers. Whilst not being matriarchal like the Drow, women occupy a place of high respect and authority, equal to that of men.

All new Aasimar are brought into this world through conventional means. They can all claim decent from one of the original members of the wayward Paladins. That is not to say, however, that they all remained pure. Each different caravan has it's own rules and customs when it comes to inbreeding. Some are essentially the same as their ancestors, living in a traditional manner. Other are much more modernized, and a certain amount of racial dilation has taken place.

Universally, they are incredibly religious. Most live by strict codes, praying multiple times a day and tailoring their entire life around the demands of the caravan. Almost all do not drink, many do not eat meat, a select few even practice minor amounts of self mutilation. They are a righteous people, endeavoring to live their lives as closely to their god as possible. The only other gods they recognize are Aten, and Ilmatyr. All others are rejected as heretical, and most consider it rude, and maybe borderline unrighteous to pray to the former two. Aasimar are naturally inclined to be good, although this doesn't necessarily preclude them from being assholes. The bottom line is that their basic instincts and urges are to be morally good.

The Aasimar, an extremely pure race, were born out a time of unrivaled strife and hatred. After the end of the God Wars, a group of original paladins and their followers were left disenfranchised. They saw the unimaginable death, destruction, and suffering that had been wrought and decided that this was not for them. They desired a simple, righteous life. And so they set out on a great trek. The original group, famously composed of one thousand seven hundred and seventy members, were a greatly devout and righteous people.

One of Tyr's formost Arch-Angels, Razael, saw this and was pleased. He came upon the group and bestowed upon them his blessing, infusing each member with holy energy. Large and small, good and bad, they all received this blessing. Curiously enough, almost none of them experienced changes. However the very youngest, those three months and under, did change.

The higher their purity, the less linear they become. For instance, all Aasimar place less importance on time. They are notoriously late, and many times to not mind waiting hours for things to happen. This increases with the more potent ones. An Aasimar of pure decent will take on a quasi-angelic form, and his thought pattern will tend to be obscure. This is not a requirement, however.
Racial Characteristics

Quote :
The blessing conferred numerous physical changes upon all the new children and newborns of the group. Any Aasimar born will have these traits to varying degrees, although at points it may seem barely noticable. They are as follows:

Blonde-Silver Hair-Aasimar have hair that is always fair. It varies between translucent silver, and golden blonde in its extremes.

Pale Skin-Always a pale hue, even after long periods in the sun. This has the disadvantage of being rather reflective at night(see below)

Holy Aura-All members of the Aasimar have auras of light and holy energy around them. The most pure of the race have auras powerful enough to be visible to the untrained eye. Through training Aasimar are able to diminish their aura, although most never learn this skill.

Height-the average member of the race will stand about 6'5. The largest capping out at seven feet, and the smallest and just under six. This carries all the advantages and disadvantages one would come to expect from a larger target.

Enhanced Vision-The Aasimar have vision akin to that of a hawk. They are able to easily pick out details on targets at distance. Additionally, Aasimar have unusual eyes. Usually golden, occasionally a very pure blue. They are often the first feature to stick out from the face of a member of this race.

The Night-However, Aasimar are vulnerable in the night. Essentially beings of light, they're prowess is greatly diminished at night. The most important thing is that they have a very hard time seeing. They are also much more vulnerable to magic. An important side note. Aasimar are most vulnerable to shadow, demonic, and dark or unholy magic. If they come into contact with an aura if this nature, it can cause them anything from annoyance to severe pain. Another important note, they are very easy to spot. The more pure literally glow in the dark due to the intensity of their aura. The pale skin is reflective, making them easy targets for predators. Until they get close, that is.

Hardy-They are hardy, resistant to diereses and poison. They also have extended lifespans, about double that of an average human being. They also tend to heal much more quickly, especially when placed in the sun.

Strong-Aasimar naturally posses increased strength. This, like almost all other traits, various from person to person. From lean runners muscles, to bulky body builders they are as variable as they are powerful.

Additionally, there are a few traits encountered in only the most pure of the race. It is highly unlikely you'll encounter someone with these characteristics outside of caravans, but you never know.

Wings-Very pure members of the race develop feathered wings, which allow them sporadic flight for short periods of time. More importantly they are effective weapons in battle, being as strong as any other part of their body. Luckily, most of the Aasimar pure enough to have these traits will almost never leave their caravan. So they are rarely encountered outside of myth and legend.

Pseudo-Angelic Powers-Certain Aasimar are reported to possess powers and abilities not unlike those of angels. These are mostly myths and legends however, and very little is known about the actual extent of such abilities.
Prayer, Magic, and Tyr

Quote :
Curiously enough, the Aasimar practice virtually zero magic in the traditional sense of the word. They use rituals, and prater to achieve the goals desired. Communicating directly with their god, the most devout{almost all of them} can draw from his energy through prayer. Most Aasimar will specialize in a certain form of this prayer magic. Some will be healers, others will be enchanters, but almost all will have a rudimentary knowledge of the techniques and practices used. Note: Concerning Holy artifacts, Aasimar are the only beings inherently able to use them. Even an agnostic Aasimar would be able to manipulate them.

//Thanks to Krug, Xeloras, and Pat with their help for this. Note: This will be a request only race.
