Lythari are good-aligned lycanthropes, similar in appearance to wolves and often mistaken as such, although they have larger leg muscles and softer fur. Lythari differ from werewolves in that they are friendly and companionable when in lupine form. Although much less numerous than werewolves, they are smaller and more agile.

Lythari are true lycanthropes. They are born as wolves and if their heart and soul is pure, the goddess Selune will bless them with longer life (up to 100 years depending on their purity) and an attribute that makes them special to other Lythari, such as superior luck, or a warm feeling of happiness, these attributes are usually passive and seen as minut, but can turn tides of battles. Lythari are almost exclusively found on the Everrain Isles but do travel to other regions, usually alone. Lythari propogate using a ritual of bonding that will turn the other party into a Lythari. This ritual only works if both parties agree to the transformation. It leaves a permanent scar on the transformed, which resembles a wolf bite.

Physical combat is abhorrent to Lythari. If they aid in warfare at all it would be in a scouting capacity, a messenger, but some Lythari are combatants, using their attributes to help them. They have a powerful bite which they can use to great effect. They, usually, only attack when hunting, preferring deer, rabbit and wild boar, much like a wolf.

Lythari packs are small, usually numbering no more than 30, a dozen or so of which will be too young to fend for themselves. They do not fashion metal objects of any kind and the rare spellcasters amongst them tend to be priests of one of the nature deities. All members of a Lythari pack are treated equally, with no real leaders. As such, these packs tend to be quite anarchic and are increasingly rare.

Lone Lythari are readily accepted within normal wolf packs and treated deferentially but are left out of the pack hierarchy. Evil wolves such as worgs, werewolves and wolfweres will attempt to drive off a Lythari or slay him or her if at all possible. They can sense a Lythari's goodliness naturally.

Some Lythari develop an ability to speak in howls and barks that sound like Common, but it is usually hard to understand. And the Lythari that are very intelligent have learned to curve their lips to form words that sound more like Common, still using howls and barks all the same. Lythari communicate to eachother the same as wolves and dogs, with barks, growls, and howling.

Lythari act very much like domestic dogs when it comes to humanoids. Although if someone takes up a Lythari as a pet the Lythari will be twice as loyal as a dog, obeying every command and protecting their master with their own life. Lythari have no ends to their loyalty and some Lythari have devoted themself to protecting places as well.

Lythari come in many shapes, sizes and colours, ranging from Jet Black to Snow White. Starving to Alpha Male. Wolf like stature, to cat like statures. It is all depending on the Lythari's blessing, purity, and life. All Lythari have a marking on their left cheek that distinguishes them from the average wolf.
