Applicating character: Thalin the Shadow
Spoiler:
What is applicated for?
Illusion magic (Sensory input)
What can it do?
Basically it can deceive the mind of the victim, tricking it into believing various things. It would be hard to explain in detail EVERYTHING it could do but in general it could be: Tricking a guard, making him hear sounds that aren't real. It's the school of sensory input, so it deceives the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, touch and mind. If needed, I could write it more in detail.
Where they are going to learn, or have learned said abilities:
From a teacher in Sida, his birthplace. It was part of his growth up until twenty when he decided to become an assassin to earn gold and power.
Why you think you should have these abilities?
It'd would bring depth to the character and make him more interesting then the average assassin.

Give us some more details about the limits of his power. How long can he hold an illusion, how many people can he affect at once, and what range limits does he have? Also, how hard would it be for someone to break the illusion purely through force of will? Just give us some idea of where he stands as a mental illusionist.

How long can an illusion be held up?
I guess this depends on the illusion. For example, creating an illusion of a dragon that would strike the victim's mind would be harder to hold then a man passing by. I'd like to scale it from 1-4 due to his skill limitations.

The man looked around to find the source of the whistling, where could it come from?
1. A noise or a smell, something small and ordinary. These simple illusion can be held for a long time, hence the simplicity. It can be very useful to distract an victim but they victims can also choose to ignore them since they are not extraordinary. These are harder to break by sheer force of will because they are so simple and they are instantaneous illusions that disappear after their use. The noise of footsteps that lasts for five seconds would be hard to break, since it's such an short illusion. But the victim can choose to ignore it.

A cat ran past the tired guard, knocking over an urn. He looked at it and decided to chase after the cat.
2. It's harder to deceive eyes then ears. The phrase "I don't believe it until I see it" is an example of this. A friend telling you about something amazing goes by your ear but the sight of the amazing event goes through your eyes and is imprinted in your brain. These are harder to maintain and harder on the body. These kinds of illusions can be held up to two minutes, give or take.

The man decided to get some food. How lucky he was when a baker moved past him , offering him bread.

3. These illusions are harder and very exhausting on your body. They combine all your senses, deceiving the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, touch and mind. The man will hear the sound of the baker, he will feel the smell of the bread, he will see the bread and he will taste the bread. These are tricky illusions and can be up for a minute, tops.

The thugs saw there prey, a carriage and a group of people just waiting to be robbed.
4. These kinds of illusions is the hardest he can produce. They are extremely taxing on his body and can be held up for only thirty seconds or less. They lure both several thugs and give the illusion of several people and objects. It's a complex illusion, that tricks all the senses on multiple persons.

Range limits.
The further he is from the victim, the harder it is to deceive him. The closer he gets to the victim, the easier it is to deceive him. It has a con though. If he is close to the victim it's harder to break through the illusion. The range limits depends on the level of illusion. Simple illusions from the scale system are easier to keep up. They can be held up a maximum of fifty meters. The complex illusions from the scale system, mainly three and four, are hard to keep up from a long distance and have a maximum range of ten to fifteen meters.

How many people can be affected at once?
This also depends on the complexity , but it has a maximum of four people at the moment.

Breaking the illusion.
You see a woman passing by you, giving you a smile.
That illusion. How hard is it to believe? Why would she do it? Was it intended towards me?
The more you question the illusion, the easier it is to break it. It depends on the person per sé. A complex illusion could easily be broken through if the illusionist doesn't think about the victim. Some victims could easily break through some illusions. It might not be hard to believe a dog passing by you but it would be harder to believe that an elephant that appeared out of nowhere, rampaging towards you. If your "wife" came up to you and began talking to you and you ask her "Where is our son at?" and she answers "Oh, he is with his brother" while he is in fact an only child would cause the victim to question the illusion. Think Inception.

Why would you assume your wife is something else

Alright, so far so good, but one last question: How often/ how much can he use this ability before he gets tired?

This depends on what illusion he uses and what level of fatigue.

Feeling weaker

He would feel weak after the use of maybe four simple illusions or two complex illusions.

Feeling tired

He would be tired after the use of five simple illusions and three complex illusions.

Muscle weakness, severe tiredness

He would have muscle weakness and be severely tired after the use of six simple illusions and four complex illusions.
In this state he would most likely fall down on the floor and he'd be unable to move until he has rested.
