THE LANGUAGES OF OLDEN

A comprehensive guide to understanding them.


There's a wide arrange of races in the land of Olden, each with their own different tongues, and traditions. Let us examine that which matters us more, the code of communication, language. Languages vary to eachother due to several reasons, and there are several hundreds, however, in this guide we shall only go through the 5 most popular ones.

COMMON / ANGLOS

(( Sounds like English. Anglos sounds like heavily accented scottish english. ))
Branch: Anglo/Talibarian
Popularity: Extremely ample. Well over 60% of the people of Olden speak Common or Anglos as their main language. It is the imperial main language.

The common language is an extremely well extended language, often called a basic language. It is unknown as to why is common so far extended, as it seems that the oldest civilizations documented had it already far learned, even civilizations with several hundred miles of separation. What is known is that Anglos is a dialect of common, spoken by the people of Lacria, it has recently become of such importance it is starting to be denominated a different language, or branch of Common.

OCCITANIAN

(( Sounds like german. ))

Branch: Anglo/Occitan
Popularity: Reduced mostly to the Holy Occitanian Empire

The Occitanian language is a mostly secular language, it has not seen widespread use outside the Holy Occitanian Empire, and thus, it is mostly indeciphrable for the rest of the world. It does however seem to be based on English, thus, why it is considered part of the Anglo branch.

SHIKARU ( 叱 )

((Sounds like Japanese with Chinese loan words))

Branch: Shikaru (No root)
Popularity: Favoured amongst reptilians for it's ease of pronounciation for them. Widespread use on Sarkun, has seen some use in Ara'ki, and mountain settlements amongst the provinces. It is the second most spoken language.

As well as several thousand characters for words, examples being the character for Shikaru, 叱.

The language seems to have arisen from a completely different background than english. Some of the pronounciations seem to be made specifically for reptilians, while others just seem much more human like. Its background is very extense, as it derives from well over 10 different dead languages.

ANIMALI ( 한글 )

((Sounds like roars and growls and stuff like that, animal sounds))

Branch: Aresco/Animali/Chordata
Popularity: Favoured amongst Kasuth, and similar races. Infact, it seems almost impossible to pronounce to anyone other than Kasuth and mammal animals.
Alphabet: Due to it's gurgutal nature, an accurate translation to english is impossible to make, however, I shall add the characters for written Animali.

The Animali seems much like a glorified set of growls and roars, however, it is naturally a very complex language, that is spoken naturally by Kasuth. It is very difficult for a human to learn Animali, even though on it's written form it's not as difficult as it may seem.

RALIM'UK ( العربية )

((Sound like arabic))

Branch:Abjad.
Popularity: Widely spoken through Sida, Tirnan and slightly on Ara'ki.

The Ralim'uk language has a particularity in that it is read from left to right. Other than that, it seems to be an extremely ancient language, maybe even preceding english. It is remarkably hard to learn, although it is said to sound almost mystical, and thus, it is oftenly used for spell words and city names. To reptilians, it is impossible to pronounce.

The Black Speech


Branch: Animali
Popularity: Orks, Orcish
Alphabet: Cannot be written, but can be said, is easily translated to Dwarven, and then from there to Common.

Can be learnt by friends of Orcs, or even if you wanted to enslave an Orc to tell you. Commonly referred to "The Language of the Arrogant" due to the brutal nature of the Orcs. Is comprised of 'akh' sounding words.

E.G - Gzrakh, Kzalnakh.
