Description: Once a human......but now, A werewolf. You might recognize this wolf-like figure from folklore or fairy tales. They appeared in myths as men who were bitten by a type of wolf that turned them into Human/Wolf creatures. These creatures are the combined human and wolf bodies. The mind of a human, the body of a wolf, the height of a human.
Werewolves are most commonly found out during a full moon, that is the only time when most of them are forced to shift, however, there is a rumor that a few, experienced Werewolves have the power to shift at will, at any time, but are still the most powerful under a full moon.

Werewolves have a natural resistance to most common weapons, such as a normal blade or club, as their skin is naturally tough. They do, however, have a weakness to silver, simply touching silver while in Wolf from, causes immense pain.
When a Werewolf is forced to shift, during a full moon, they are filled with a powerful hunger, the transformation taking a large amount of energy. They often have no choice, but to feed on the nearest living creature, to satiate their hunger.

Lycanthropes, however, should not be related to belonging to a single mindset or ideal. For millenia, wars of influence have been fought between Selune and Hircine over control of the greater lycanthrope population. At times, entire wars have broken out between the Children of Hircine, the dark-furred berserkers and the Children of Selune, the multi-colored, noble werewolves. Where the Children of Selune have always attempted to retain an aura of noble savagery, the Children of Hircine have made no such attempt, and continue to be known as the signature bloodthirsty lycanthropes of myth.

These colors of the Hircinian Werewolves, from least to greatest.

Brown
Dark Brown
Black

These are the colors of the Selunian Werewolves, from least to greatest.
Light Blonde
Grey
White

A Werewolves fur color usually, but not always, matches their Human hair color.
Werewolves are not social creatures, unlike vampires, they hardly ever form "Clans" preferring to stay to themselves. The major exception to this, are the "Knights of Selune" a group of elite Werewolves, hand picked by Selune herself, to be her Right Hand on the Mortal Plane. In their human form, they are all tall, muscular men, with white hair, armed to the teeth. As Werewolves, they are all enormous white beasts, each one strong enough to destroy a small town.
Abilities/Traits: Long sharp claws, Black (occasionally blue) wolf fur covering their whole body, Making it hard to see them during nightfall. Extremely fast.

Tips: Stay as close as possible to town during a full moon unless you want to encounter one of these horrid creatures.

This here's something I wrote for MousePie. I don't suppose we could reconcile these two to make über werewolf lore thread?

Werewolves Werewolf_by_pmoodie
"And before me it stood, jaws askew, blood dripping from its fangs. It was tall, and though nigh impossible to discern in the darkness, seemed to bear the features of both wolf and man. It strode on two legs, and its eyes glowed an infernal crimson. But just as quickly as it was there, it was gone."

Lycanthropes go by many names. Werewolves, lycans, wolf-men, or simply monsters. The threat of lycanthropes has only recently made itself known. The first recorded instance of a lycanthrope was in the forests surrounding a town called Lycana, which is what its name is derived from. Though, the exact identity of the first lycanthrope is unknown, as are the secrets behind how the first werewolf was created. Many theories exist, the most prevalent of which that it was a curse brought on by the gods, or an attempt by a powerful mage to create the ultimate weapon.

The most unique aspect of lycanthropes is that they only exist in their wolf-like forms at night. During the day, they are ordinary people. When the sun passes below the horizon, and the first rays of moonlight touch their skin, a lycanthrope will involuntarily make "the change" into their fearsome wolf-like form. When the change is complete, any traces of their humanity are quickly purged, replaced by violent and almost uncontrollable instincts. The lycanthrope will remain in this form until dawn, when they change back into humans. The change is often described as excruciatingly painful, as the person's entire physiology and body structure is drastically altered. Sometimes the lycanthrope remembers their actions as a wolf in vivid detail, other times they have no recollection, waking up as humans as if they fell asleep. Some lycanthropes aren't even aware of their nightly changes, while others are plagued by self-hatred due to their nature.

While changed, lycanthropes have the ability to pass on their condition. If one is bitten by a changed lycanthrope, by the next full moon they will change into one. The change will then occur every night, until the curse is broken or the victim is killed.

Female lycanthropes are incapable of carrying children. Should a pregnant woman make the change, a miscarriage will occur, killing the fetus. Both male and female lycanthropes still have fertile and functioning sex organs whilst in their human forms, however. A lycanthrope in wolf form is androgynous, possessing no identifiable reproductive organs. As a result, it is impossible to tell male and female lycanthropes apart, when they are changed.

A changed lycanthrope can easily be identified by its wolf-like features, and tall, humanoid stature. They are immensely strong creatures, with thick, bristly fur, and a sense of sight and smell that far surpasses anything in nature. They are highly resistant to nearly any form of physical attack. Even steel is known to glance off their skin, but silver or other more powerful metals, as well as enchanted blades and magic, can all cause damage just as easily as they would a normal person. Silver and dorifium, in particular, are known to actually burn a werewolf's flesh. It would seem werewolves are highly susceptible to them.

Whilst in human form, lycanthropes have no special resistances of any kind. Werewolf hunters often track changed werewolves until dawn, choosing that time to strike.

Signs a person may be a lycanthrope are heavy scarring, constant fatigue, stress, depression, and disappearances during the evening and nighttime hours.

The morality of werewolf hunting is a hotly debated topic. While werewolf hunting is a legal profession, many argue that since lycanthropes can not control their actions, they should not be held accountable and slain. Others would argue that it is a necessary evil, to prevent the spread of lycanthropy.

Indeed, in its early days, lycanthropy was an epidemic of frightening proportions. Lycana was quickly overrun, and nightly attacks would leave many dead and more as new lycanthropes. These days saw the first werewolf hunters, and a peak of monster-hunting as a whole. The spread was contained, and is slowly being pushed further and further back. The threat still remains, however, and gives reason to the locking of doors, the barring of gates, and the vigilance of forest patrols during the night.
