[A woman garbed in blue, her robes slightly translucent in the autumn light, appears before you--her garments wavering in the soft, but gentle wind, weaving through the air in an unnatural way. The air feels alight with magic, it's a warm feeling, but a cold one at the same time... you're unsure what to say.]

She is the Mistress of Magic and Mother of Mysteries who guides the Weave of magic that envelops the world. She tends to the weave constantly, making possible all the miracles and mysteries wrought by magic and users of magic. She is believed to be the embodiment of the Weave and of magic herself, her veins the ley lines, her breath the mists and her body the pulsing, thrumming earth.

She is a Neutral Good (previously, and still also, Lawful Neutral) Greater Power. Her symbol is a ring of eight stars surrounding a red mist, which flows from the center to the bottom of the ring.Her divine realm is Dweomerheart.

History

Originally called Mystryl, the goddess of magic was a greater power within the domain Dweomertor, born to Selûne in the dawn of time. Being the goddess of creativity and invention, she was said to have been the true first spellcaster of the Realms, having been the first to discover the ability to manipulate energy beyond her sphere. Upon this discovery she was renamed Mystra, in veneration of this astounding new feat.

Mystra is depicted as a beautiful human female with rainbow-colored hair, radiant skin, and burning blue eyes. She wore simple, but elegant, blue-white robes of the finest heavy silk. At other times she was depicted as a vaguely female humanoid form composed entirely of prismatic-hued will-o’-wisps.

Upon the formation of the Aerian Pact, she joined her mother in departing the other Gods of Darkness to cement a lasting allegiance within the new alliance. Mystra was given the portfolio of the Weave upon it's creation, and has since been responsible for the transference of magical energy throughout the mortal realm.

As caretaker of the Weave, Mystra has ultimate control over all magic that falls under the Weave's jurisdiction, and can shape it to her will, with the ability to withdraw a being’s access to the Weave and prevent it from using spells of any sort, and in an even harsher restriction she could also prevent a being from using any sort of magic whatsoever if she so decreed. In earlier days, Mystra could even deny the deities of the Pact access to the Weave, and therefore denying their direct access to Aeria, as in those days the Weave was the singular access point of the realm for the gods of the Aerian Pact. Such denial could even, in those days, remove a deity's ability to grant blessings to their subjects; this has since changed, with the creation of the Weave of the Mandate allowing divine access to it's followers no matter the circumstance.

With her complete control over the function and flow of the Weave, she could be said to be among the most powerful of the gods of the Crystal Sphere. However, the Gods of the Aerian Pact planned well; in accordance with their desires,roughly half of Mystra's power lies in her Chosen and in the Lesser Power Azuth; having been arranged this way so that Mystra could not dominant Aeria in its entirety. Though she still retains the ability to deny access to the realm to the deities of the Aerian Pact, she is not permitted to do so without Tyr's immediate council.

It was during the climactic "God War" that Mystra's realm was assaulted by the Firstborn Shar, goddess of Darkness, and God of Demons and Crafter of the Burning Hells, Sylornath. The two dark powers managed to imprison Mystra in her own realm for the duration of the God War and slew the lesser power Azuth, from whom they gained a somewhat substantial control over the weave. When the God War ended, a mortal named Midnight had risen to power,claiming Azuth's place. Mystra was subsequently released from her prison, and has found an adequate aid in Midnight.

True to her chaotic nature, Mystra is flirtatious and profound, flighty and persistent, light-hearted and deadly serious. Her moods and state-of-mind varied from moment to moment, but she generally tried to do what she thought was right. She seemed too trusting and innocent at times, and tended to overreact when she felt she had been tricked. She distrusted but didn’t hate Shar until her true, malicious nature was revealed;now Mystra views Shar with an ever wary eye, as Shar has sought to seize control over her for centuries.She also rebelled occasionally against the good-intentioned suggestions of Selûne, who she regarded as smotheringly maternal at times. Mystra's greatest enemies are Shar, who created the Shadow Weave in response to the birth of the Weave, and Cyric, who has forever viewed Mystra's domain with a lustful eye.
