It attacked me without warning (on my Yahoo! homepage, actually), downloaded without my consent at all, bypassed my legitimate antivirus software (and shut down updating and scanning functions, effectively killing all of it), and fucked up my computer. Only a reformat and complete reinstall of everything saved me. Maybe you need to do the same.
Sure, I'd do that. If I was allowed to use the damn thing ever again. :l |

| I KNOW WHAT IT IS It is called Malware by the way. Here is what you do. Write this down. 1. Reboot your PC into safe mode with networking (spam F8 right before Windows starts to load) 2. Go into "Safe mode with networking" 2.5 Before you do anything else, you’re going to need to fix the internet connection to work, because malware can change IE to use a fake proxy server that prevents you from getting to anything else—and will also prevent you from installing and updating a real anti-malware software. http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/image19.pngGo into Tool in IE -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN settings -> Select "Use a proxy server for your LAN" -> Also select Bypass for Local Addresses 3. Get this out of internet explorer (It's free) http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html4. Install the anti-malware and run a FULL scan. 5. Reboot again normally. I had this same exact fucking problem. Edit: If this doesn't work, I have on more alternative. | |

Virus is slang for it. - Quote :

It's because you're using Internet Explorer. It has a massive security hole that a 12-year-old could get through. Use Firefox. Hell, I'd even say Opera or Chrome is better than IE. - Quote :
- Reformat, reinstall Windows
If it's on the same drive as Windows, Windows won't let you wipe the disk. If it's on a secondary disk, then just wipe that disk. Reinstalling Windows is as simple as popping in the DVD, changing the boot order in BIOS, and letting it reinstall. - Quote :
- Antivirus program
Stop using bloody AVG, McAfee, Norton, etc. If you want a free anti-virus, go with Avast. If you want a much better one, and you have money to pay for it, get Kasperski.

| eHOW TO NOT GET COMPUTER VIRUSES.
1) Get Opera or Firefox, don't use IE.
2) If you really feel like it, get Avast.
3) Whatever is too good to be free IS too good to be real.
next time, don't use xp, keep your stuff updated, do not use limewire, and do not use p2p programs in general, as well as only download from trusted sites.

spend any amount of time on milw0rm.org, you're prone to find at least 3 exploits that work on XP or under. once you go 7 you never go back.

She uses Firefox. 1. Go into Tools->Options->Network. 2. Look for the section called "Connection" it's at the top. (It should say "Configure how Firefox connects to the internet"). Hit the 'Settings' button. 3. You should get four radio buttons (A circular button that when you click, a dot fills them). Select "No proxy". It should be at the top. 4. Just click OK and you're done. - Quote :

I doubt that you'd click them. But then there's only one explaination left, ruling out I.E. and clicking ads. It's that you download the wrong stuff. Only download torrents that you are sure you trust. Look for the bigger groups' releases, such as RLD (Reloaded), RAZOR1911, and so on and so forth. And only download software that you KNOW works. Check reviews and comments, if there's alot of comments from different users, with different grammar and spelling, that say that it's safe, then it most likely is. Same for the opposite. - Quote :

| Well, it applies to everything you download. Only download stuff you KNOW what it is. If you haven't heard about it before, then do some research. If you want a good program for doing something, look around the net. There'll often be alot of suggestion threads around different forums. | |
