Biography: Life in the slums of Imperia was never an easy one. Little Alur Traugott, the son of a barman and a whore, knew that better than any other. Born in a dark alley on one especially rainy day, the result of a pregnancy that was not supposed to have happened, the screaming child was left in a heap of garbage. Soon, though, a group of monks heard the infant, and they rushed him to their temple, covering him with their cloaks. Thus began the sewing of the seeds of zeal.

Alur was now an orphan, one among hundreds in the slums of Imperia. Few were lucky enough to be accepted into any kind of monastery, for shelter and education, leaving the majority of them as street urchins. Alur, though, was the lucky one. He was raised in an atmosphere that brooked nothing but good and righteousness. His mentors taught him of the workings of evil in all of its many forms, a task that took years to completely understand. He came to appreciate the Empire and the gods of the Imperial Pantheon more than any other boy in the monastery, and his loyalty to the Imperial machine became obvious. On his eighth birthday, Alur was given the choice of which road he was to follow in his holy education, a privilege many apprentices were not given. He could have become a monk, remaining within the safety of the Empire's greatest city. He could have chosen to be a chaplain for the Imperial Army. He could have been so many simple things, but little Alur's mind did not work that way. Alur Traugott became the youngest member of the most feared holy order in the Empire, the Witch Hunters of the Inquisition.

These new mentors were not like his old ones. They were strict and cruel, and they taught many different things, much of it expanding upon that which he had learned in his previous education. They taught him the art of the sword, an art that he had mastered by the age of sixteen. They taught him to kill, and Alur's skill at ending lives grew greater than some of the most renowned of assassins. Most importantly, though, they told him about the real world. They told him about what lurked in the dark places. They told him about the corruption that lurked around every corner, in every dirty hovel, in every exquisite tower. They grew his capacity for zeal to a size unimaginable to anyone outside of their order. They made him one of their own, a Witch Hunter, and they sent him out into the world, a place that most orphans would never see, to give the judgment of the righteous.

Decades of zeal and righteous rage would be the result of this. Alur would rise though the ranks of his order in only a few years after being unleashed, and soon stood at the right hand of the order's grandmaster. Even as the years went by, and Alur grew much older, it was written that the work of a holy warrior of the Empire would never cease, and Alur was never held back. His deeds include the slaying of ancient vampires, the outwitting of evil sorcerers, the rooting out of the corruption of more than six hundred of the Imperial nobility, the burning of the residents of dozens of 'tainted' villages, all among countless other deeds of skill, bravery, and almost mindless zeal.

His work would take him throughout the continent of Talibar, to the marble-covered streets of Sidan cities, to Imperial provinces located at the very edges of the world. By the present, Master Traugott has seen more and done more than most inquisitors could ever dream of doing. He has proven himself a masterful detective and investigator, a purger of the heretical, a swordsman of the utmost skill, a slayer of the most fell of foes, and a loyal servant to the world's greatest power.

In the present, as Alur enters Surna; a town in the outer reaches of Inner Talibar, a town that he has never been affiliated with in any way, he feels a sense of wrongness. Consulting a savant in his retinue, Alur learns of the corruption and insanity that has festered in this backwater settlement for decades. Taking a puff from his long pipe and placing a hand on the hilt of his sword, Alur chuckles. This will be a great purge, indeed.
