An Idea;

This sort've just dawned on me, usually I'd write a ten page rant with an index - but I'll keep this entirely simple.

There aren't a lot of admins, yes, there are times on the server when we need admins, yes?

It seems the recruitment of said admins isn't really a priority, many people have attempted to gain authoritive position, for good reason and for the community; Kruggly, for example.

But it sort've hit me, why don't we give 'respected' or 'trusted' members the ability to kick, slap, and ban for thirty minutes on the server. They don't have any authoritative power, and any admin can revoke their privilege, but it'd basically ensure there'd be someone on who could deal with more disruptive folk, should an actual admin not be present. Keep in mind, these people hold no authoritative power, nothing of the sorts. They can't authorize things, accept applications, rules, etc. They don't even have forum access - maybe simple moderator should they prove themselves. It'd be a good way to keep the server structured, give something for people to strive for, and easily separate those willing to help the community, from those who aren't. And make the road to admin ship an easier task to manage.

Another note; Perhaps bring back the council between adminship and the player-populace with these respected members, bringing them to bring forth problems offered by community members, and act as a bridge between the two.

This was the thing I noticed first. Being an admin isn't anything you STRIVE for. It's a position you're RECRUITED into because of promise you've showed. If you need power to ban and kick people for that, then you're not doing it right.

Another problem would be the selection of "trusted" members. People'd go "I'M TRUSTED - LOOK AT ALL I'VE DONE!" and there'd just be trouble inbetween members.

And the council was never a good idea. It was utter shit. The council never got anything done, it was basically just a wall that made nobody able to push anything through without a meeting, a meeting that required people to be online who were not online.

If there's a problem, the players take it up with an admin or the rest of the community. It's that simple. If the players are too afraid to talk to an admin, they wouldn't be talking to anyone on the council either.


If there was need for more players to enforce the server, then another admin would be recruited.

One thing I just want to add, that's not really relevant at all, is that I've heard a few admins in my time who say "I don't do anything because someone else always beats me to it". Pro-tip: that means you're not needed, if someone's doing all the work before you do.

Then someone needs to get on that, there were no admins on today- for example. Besides Narran, of course.

I've never been on without admins, so until it's a reoccuring problem, I don't think it's going to be a very high priority.
And to be perfectly honest? There aren't many qualified individuals to fit as an admin. No offense to anyone in the community.

I agree with you, even though I wasn't referring to Olden exclusively. I can't remember if it's been said here, but it HAS occured alot in the past, and since we're on the topic of admins and shit I might as well say it, because I don't want any admin coming into the thread and feeling threatened with the talk of new admin recruiting and shit and go "WELL I DON'T HAVE TIME TO DO ALL MY WORK SORR-EH."

Narran isn't an admin anymore; she did, after all, forfeit the position.
(Though as far as no other admins being on, I thought Psyche was on?)

Also, nobody has used that as an excuse that I have seen.

Councils never work. They didn't even work in Desertia back when I was a head admin.

The abilities of the "Privileged Members" thing just resemble regular admins.

I never really liked being admin, either. Not that I've been admin on Olden, but I was an admin on Des, and it was fun for a little while, but then I just got stressed out and quit because my stress was leading up to my boredom as well.

And, no offense, but Pat you aren't always on. Munroe is a lot of the time, if not most. And Ruta's on and off. You're the only admins.

And some people aren't qualified, yeah - but I know of people that are, and it's simply so that we can rid the server of it's usual idiots, and minges when other admins aren't on.

Psyche is on too. You said he was on there, even. If there is a problem, just contact the admins over SF. Hopefully people aren't physically impaired when it comes to typing and can type "HELP SERVER" or something. I've done it several times. The admins will come running at full speed if you ask them to. If they don't, then they usually have more important stuff to do. But if they go "can't watching youtube brb" and log off, then it's time to be alarmed.

It's rare that there are no admins on, and when there aren't it's usually because it's work/school hours, or they have more important social events.

I always saw admin as a pleasurable role. Helping people and all that.

It may not seem that way but, meh. I liked it.

As for dear Zaku's idea, I think it's easily abusable but it could work if you gave it to the right people.

That's why it's easily revokable. So simple- take people who are on the server frequently, who are trusted and responsible, and then give them these powers.

If abused take them away, if not, problem solved.

Just have some faith in people, jesus christ.
