| EmpiresOkay guys, I saw this on some other forums, so I want to do it here. To start, basically: You all start in the tribal ages. Sticks and stones, ladies. In order to progress, you need to do actions, outlined below. TO JOIN, AND NEW PLAYERS CAN JOIN AT ANY TIME, POST THE FOLLOWING: - Quote :
- Post:
Your country name
Where you want to be on the map
Ideology (Military, Economic, Expansive, Cultural. Picking one will give you a bonus to rolls )
Religion (feel free to make one up)
Government type (Communist, capitalist, republic, ect)
After that, I will mark you on the map (updating it) and post in the second post on this thread with the results of each "action" you take. You can take up to three actions per update. actions can be ANYTHING. here's an example - Quote :
- the grand empire of McGuffin tries to expand westward.
I will roll a D20 on my desk IRL, and add whatever modifiers you start with/have gained. Then adjust the map. Please only post once per update. or I will get angry and the dice gods will get angry. - Quote :
- ON THE MAP
There are going to be several different things going on on the map at the same time. Lets point some out here.
COLORED BLOTCHES these are the countries territories, you can tell what country by looking at the name inside the blotch.
CAPITALS A countries capital will be marked on the map by a small flag.
TRADE ROUTES Trade routes are noted by dotted RED lines on the map
PORTS Port cities play an important role in the game. They allow you to form trade routes and have larger seafaring vessels.
SPECIAL EVENTS you'll know when you see it.
FORTRESSES Defensive positions. Armies need to take these out if they want to secure a front without the threat of attack from behind.
ON ACTIONS [READ]PLEASE READ. Actions can be ANYTHING YOU WANT THEM TO BE. but remember that because you say something doesn't mean it works. VAGUE IS USUALLY BETTER. for instance, Expand north, is better than, Expand north about 10 miles. I judge the average roll you need to get based on what you ask. If you ask for something specific, I judge that you need SPECIFICALLY THAT THING. And the roll will be harder. If something flat out fails, "you try to ____ but don't seem to grasp the concept" that means you're doing it wrong.

- Tiberia
The Tiberians try to push north, but only manage to push a little ways into the harsh wilderness.
After much work, your people develop full fledged farms, Moving you from a simple hunting and gathering society, to a stationary one. You reckon you should be able to produce enough food in a season to have more than your people can eat.
You send some men to explore south, But they only come back with reports of vast woodlands. Nothing you're not used to
You gather your people and talk about founding a more stable "town" a few seem to catch on to the idea, and move their lean to's and bough built structures around your hut, forming a kind of gathering area.

- BANLANDS
you send out pioneers in all directions, and they meet almost no trouble in their journies, setting up new pockets of civilization
You talk of uniting the spread out houses of the tribe into a more fortified "town" but they give you strange looks, A few do move their houses closer though.
You try your hardest to move from a hunting to a growing people, but as hard as you try, nothing seems to take root. Maybe it's not the season... - Quote :
- MOTHER RUSSIA
You expand towards the east, just managing to touch the sea, but reports from the new town say that the journey killed half your settlers

After a lot of thought, your inventors realize that it's safer to strike things from a distance, instead of a club. They get branches and sharpen them, or tie pointy rocks to the end. creating SPEARS
- Quote :
- Banland

- Mother Russia
your people manage to build some shanty rafts, and use them to fish. You don't quite know how to build anything sturdy enough to warrant a port. your people start shifting away from hunting and becoming a fishing nation.
You manage to make some farmland outside the capitol to grow hardy wheats. With the fish you should have more than you can eat this winter.
You yell at the birds to find people, but they seem wholly uninterested with your requests. More and more people seem to be gathering around the people yelling at the birds, and you swear you see more bird shaped idols appearing on the roofs of huts.
You tempt people to leave their isolated houses and move to the capital, it doesn't seem to gain much support though. - Quote :
- From the earth a new leader emerges, uniting the tribes in the dense rainforest world. They call themselves Belarivia. Will his empire grow and flourish? Only time will tell.
- Quote :

Most people in the settlement agree with you, and same sex couples become common, As well as dens of carnal desire. YOUR CIVILIZATION NOW HAS ITS FIRST BUSINESS. THE OLDEST PROFESSION.

- Ramonia
You make tools and other things out of wood and sandstone.
Your capital swells with people, but you are running out of materials to build houses with.
You venture out, and find a large deposit of hard clay at the bottom of a wide oasis.
Your boarders expand south
At the very center of town, you gather your builders and construct a large shrine. Update 7 - Quote :
- Tiberia
You seek great fame in the southern wylds of the land, and take your two mightiest warriors deep into the alpine forests, A large crowd of spectators watches you leave, fearing the stories of the dark woods told around your capital, You and your posse move through the thick and ancient forests that have sustained your people and kept them in fear for all recorded time. You spend days treading through the perpetual twilight the canopy above provides, spears held ready for any threat there may be. Soon you approach a stone alter beset a massive pine in your path; making your skin crawl as you approach to see the dark and twisted offerings to some foul and misanthropic god. You do the first thing that comes to your mind, and destroy the alter, kicking it over and stomping the offerings into the soft forest earth. Your cohorts shout, not in warning but in glee, as they point to the likeness of a beautiful and naked woman peering about a tree. She speaks in a lulling wyld tone, and black lines of paint streak across her face in a tribal pattern, "What big strong men come to dethrone the god Shadara~" she coos, your men go over to brag, recounting their heroic deeds and triumph over nature's cruelty, but without warning, the woman emerges, a feminine figure upon a black and twisted body, Eight legs of a spider and a large abdomen under her near milk white torso. With a swing of her bladed arm, she bisects your follower in two, a charmed smile still on his face as his severed upper sections fall to the ground. Your second guard takes up his spear with difficulty, as you, great leader of men, rush to his aid, no feminine visage is enough to corrupt your will. The spider woman shrieks at the two of you, a bladed arm cutting deep through your remaining followers leg, sending him falling to the ground with a scream of pain. Your grasp is firm and your spear is sharp, and you thrust straight at the beasts twisted heart, but are denied your victory by a sweeping claw, knocking your blade away. you steady yourself as the spider laughs, "Why not just become a thrall of my mistress? Good lady Shadara takes good care of all her servants~" She says it in her cooing en-rapturous voice. You growl in anguish, the words searing your mortal mind like a hot knife, but through the haze of false promise, the word of your god fills you. You let out a mighty yell that reverberates through the shadowed woods and sends leaves flying away from you with the force, the spider creature stunned for a moment. Seeing your opportunity, you grip your spear and thrust straight for her gasping mouth, letting out of ferocious roar, "GREAT LORK ABOVE, GUIDE MY SPEAR!" the haft of your long spear shudders as the tip is forced out through the back of the creatures head, blood and bone spattering out from the blow. In the creatures dying breath, she swings a bladed claw, carving a deep wound through your clothes and chest, Your task done, the beast slain, the mighty presence of your god leaves you, but the feeling of that thunderous roar remains. You pull your spear up, the beasts severed head still impaled on it, and help your comrade back to the capital. Your people let out a wave of cheers as you return, and after the account of your tale, and the nodding confirmation by your surviving guard, bolster the moral of your people. if they had doubt in your capabilities before, There is none now. - Quote :
- Ramonia
You quickly tame the camels, making slow but desert ready mounts, some people do complain of the smell though...
Your people think of a way to attack from a distance, and realize that throwing isn't nearly enough. you make a sort of bow, the arrows pointed with several poisoned cactus needles.
The boy hitting the rocks shows exceptional skill, and others soon try to hit rocks flying at them, soon a small gathering forms, and people celebrate their new sport. eventually they make up new rules of things to do AFTER you hit the rock, and they decide to name it, Baseball. - Quote :
- The Slaaneshi Empire
You send men southward and gain a fair bit of land
Your engenseers get to work, clearing the land and laying halved trees to form a wooden road! It expands north to south to all your outlying towns, domestic trading flourishes!
you manage to find several large herds of buffalo, but can only afford enough land to keep ten or so. soon your herders abandon the idea, and just hunt them instead. - Quote :
- Macketonia
You move to the north and fish, the fishermen bring in more than enough food to sate your hungry people!
You pick the biggest and tuskiest walrus and ordain him "Bubba." On the proving grounds, he quickly impales several sick people of your empire on his long tusks, the square below the steps of your palace run red with blood, his beige tusks stained crimson. A fine beast of war he will be.
You send out your guard and burn all edible plants, your people grumble and whisper of the insanity of their leader. - Quote :
- Kanata
You assemble twenty five brave warriors and arm them, sending them south to slay the thread to your lands, they approach an open field with a long burned scar in the landscape, and soon see the comings of a large winged beast on the horizon, like a lizard with wings and a spiked tail, it descends upon your men, roaring hot fire pouring from it's mouth, half are burned to death with the first pass, and the moral of your men falter, several run screaming to be torn in two in the creatures massive jaws. the remainder of your squad circle around the captain, and hold their weapons high, as the dragon makes another pass, he swings upwards, the spear sliding through it's scales and through it's chest, with a guttural roar and another burst of fire into the air, it slams into the ground, defeated.
You manage to capture and tame several large horses.
You pack clay around your huts, making them less drafty and keeping the heat of a fire in better. A new nation comes into being, but the land they requested does not exist! They are doomed to the black abyss, to know neither life or death. (Being a shithead means I ignore you. congrats. ) - Quote :
- Aloria
Your people have a strong connection with nature, large trees and parks dot your capital, as well as around it's borders. It slowly becomes tradition to pray under trees, if not necessarily to them, and once every year to hang slips of paper with a wish in the branches of the tree in the square of town, a mighty oak who's face knows not the wear of time.
You expand north a ways. - Quote :
- Sara
Your people form the basics of a written language, a scrawling and ornate text that is best suited to the hand of a scholar rather than the common folk. a sloppier common dialect emerges soon after, though.
You develop more farms, growing grapes in the rich soil.
You look into some of the strange shiny rocks in the mountains towards the center of your land, you soon figure out that with some effort, you can put them into fire and extract a silvery black substance, Your seers cheer at the discovery of "Ferris" - Quote :
- Banland
You develop a type of currency, exchanging secrets for goods and services, The most wise and open-eyed soon rise to the top of the social hierarchy
You dig down into the earth and try to find something, anything, after weeks of nothing but more dirt, you strike a strange glowing idol of blue and grey stone. Several people in the capital look upon it with wonder as it is brought back, The idol is in the shape of a large predator cat.
You tell your seers to write down all of their ideas on rolls of animal skins, soon large stocks of scrolls fill a house in your capital, you call it a "Chronicasium" - Quote :
- Belariva
Your people try to make a new weapon, you take wood and carve it into a sharp shape, pointing the tip, they don't last long but they hurt like hell! YOU INVENT WOODEN SWORDS
You enslave the poorer members of your population, selling them to do manual labor and other acts of depravity. Several people in your empire dissagree with this, but you make them slaves too.
You move eastward a bit.
A new nation is formed in the lush river delta of the middle lands! they call themselves Smurfopia, and worship the great green in this world. For among the green-water visage lie, the long and lonesome sands stretch far away. - Quote :
- Mother Russia
You start to expand south, the teams led by the bird speakers and Prophets of the Wing, you gather quite a bit of land!
You erect statues to the bird god all around your capital and in all outlying settlements, the populous applauds your wisdom and piety!
you proclaim the death penalty for all who would try to cheat their way to better standing, most people accept this as just.

| Banland, also known as Upside Down land.
Australia
Expansive
The inhabitants of Banland tend to believe in the concept of persuasion and influence. It is thought that a very long, long time ago, there was in fact a God, a being of such immense influence that he died the moment he decided to use it. The basic philosophy of persuasion and influence is that the more something influences something else, the faster it dies. This explains why most rocks exist, and why trees live for such a unnecessarily long time. All living things happen to only have a certain amount of influence, derived from the infinite influence from someone who bothered to live a long time ago, and it is believed that once you exert all your influence and die, you will live as all the things you had influenced. Despite this being an incredibly strange and complicated religion, most people have a very good grasp on it, and all try to explore and influence as much as they can to prepare themselves for their afterlives.

| The high priests of Banland observe the astral signs of influence and deem the appropriate actions to be this:
1: Expand as far as we can towards the outer reaches of infinite banland.
2: Begin construction of a nerve-center in Banland's middle.
and 3: Try to better farming methods to influence and feed the people of the future.

Our pickiteers and pioneers take a break, travelling back to the capital to revel in the ceremonies and gain new ideas! Our Holymen add more into their ranks, founding an official research hut for the Warboss! Our builders form a group, considering bunching tents together for more space for people in smaller rooms! The Warboss decides that he wants to have another wife. He looks towards the neighbouring tribes of the lands, hoping to find a worthy bride with a suitable dowry of technology and wealth. The tribe's best inventors are called forth by the research hut to put in weapon technology ideas, which will be tested on the local wildlife.

| The High Priests of probability once again consult the stars, suggesting more courses of action.
1: Continue expansion, so that all may feel our influence and become a part of us.
2: Attempt to construct better tools, the dark forces of improbability are working against us, we have not anything to aid us in our planting quests.
3: Try and reinforce the idea of a nerve center, we must collect our influence in one place so we may direct it easily.

-Expeditionary force that was sent East evolves into a Sea-based community, attempt to live off the land in this new environment. -Wood is noticed to float, and the suggestion of using wood to somehow fish easier arises. -New Farming laws are set in place by the tribal chieftans, quickly adopting the form of the 'Bird Speakers'. This tries to restore order to the squabbling over the farms. The smartest men are also gathered to the Bird Speakers to be formed into the sect of the 'Bird Brains'. -Fish is attempted to be brought between the two settlements, and a new settlement is attempted to be constructed inbetween, to create a safe passage inbetween. -Explorers are sent West.

Our picketeers and pioneers use their new inspiration to try and expand more, chartering less of the land all the whilst. Our Librarians are eager to form a club. They look at the religious ideals of the country, and start talking about them to see if they were more efficient than a burden. Our builders want to update the city with the new techniques, asking for new people to come together to form a larger sort of tribal settlement. The Warboss is angry upon finding nothing around. He takes his new found "Pointy Stikk" and uses it on the nearest person he can find. (Training) The populace suddenly feel something odd. They cannot determine their sexuality, and start attempting to mate every which way.

| The RAMONIA tribe deliberates upon the following actions.
Designation of specialists to look into the creation of tools to make farming and building easier. The leader of the tribe makes demands of making the largest settlement bigger and more built up. The builders of the tribe venture out across Ramonia to try and discover new building materials. Pioneers look into pushing borders ever more southwards. Fanatical pomudaio priests attempt to organise the construction of a shrine to the all-seeing raven, Pomuu.
