Vytaeus

Located closer to the Imperium's core, but still along the Eastern Fringe, this world exhibits a curious level of development. It is a Hive World, filled with untold billions of humans, factories, and Imperial offices. Vytaeus' land mass is coated in Hive Spires which are miles tall, leaving only its boiled oceans devoid of human occupation.

Vytaeus' location and production facilities are of vital importance to the Imperium, and its planetary defense force is spread thin, quelling rebellions. This makes it ripe for attack. Its instability is unusually widespread, as though unseen forces are manipulating events. The lower levels of the spires are also rife with Chaos cults, attracting the attentions of the Darker Powers.

*** Due to the lacking planetary defence forces, the Cadian 78th, 52nd, 74th and even small parts of the 8th are currently stationed on the hive world, where they are, much like the PDF, spread wide and thin. They are constantly trying to counter any threats, while still maintaining defensive capabilities. But this endeavour seems quite hopeless, and has limited success.

*** Sentinels roam the streets. Multi-lasers are hauled between defensive positions. Guardsmen are executed by their commisars for not having their Uplifting Primer available. And the lower levels are constantly patrolled by Cadian Kasrkin, who mercilessly put down anyone they suspect of heresy or rebellion.

*** Suddenly a loud blast rings from the lower hives, and shortly the loud sounds of officers barking orders and commisars screaming about purity and loyalty fills the air.
A rebel just detonated himself and took out two of the extremely few Leman Russes still in usable condition.

And the planet weeps.

**Down in the depths of the cities, hidden away from Kaskrin guard troopers, a fairly large Chaos cult of 150 people chant in an abandoned containment warehouse. They chant in a circle, inbetween them inscribed into the ground is the mark of the Lord of All.

Vytaeus Nurgle_mark

The aspiring champion of this cult of decay walks towards the center, on top of the mark. "O' great Lord of Flies, Grandfather Nurgle, grant your children and this depressing world your gifts! With our prayers, open the gate to your Holy Garden of disease, and let this place rot in your magnificence! Bring forth the Legions that follow you as we do, and take this world!"

***A loud scream, followed by a few loud bangs, like something hitting the ground can be heard a distance away from the warehouse. Shortly follows the sound of lasguns searing through flesh, and a final loud scream that slowly dies out into a whine.

***In the upper hives, the fear of a riot has prompted large elements of the guard force to set up defenses to prevent anyone from reaching the upper hive from the lower ones.
Although great emphasis is put on the defense of the upper hive and its important citizens, nothing is held back from keeping the upper hive safe from within as well. Slowly but surely the Imperial Guard elements begin to turn the upper hive into a massive city-fortress, sparing no resource in doing so.
Meanwhile the Kasrkin continue to sweep the lower hives.

**The aspiring champion looks to the direction of the lasgun firing, growling. He raises his voice. "Children of Nurgle, keep praying to the Great Father, he will deliver this place his gifts!" The leader pulls a quarter of the chanting Heretics away, ordering them to the windows and doorways of the warehouse. Armed with petty self-defense weaponry and a few lasguns, the devote cultists of Nurgle aim their weapons out of the warehouse.

***A single squad of Kasrkin appear from behind a building, not seeming too interested in the particular warehouse the filth-cultists are hiding in, but rather they approach the side-door of another warehouse, roughly 50 yards away from the other one. They all surround the entrance, and whisper a few quiet words to one another. They seem to be preparing to storm the warehouse.

The Tau stealthsuits huddle up around a small fire in the abandoned warehouse. Their recon on this planet almost over as they wait for evacuation.

The Shas'Ui looks towards the rest of his men. "Cheer up, the Air caste will be here soon. I'll buy you all a round when we get back, okay?"

The men seem roused at this, and begin to chatter quietly amongst themsleves as they sit on an old table.

**The cultist leader observes the kaskrins, and orders his heretics to hold their fire. He moves swiftly back to the chanting ring, bringing two armed heretics with him, he pulls five chanting heretics with him to the center. "With these five of the dark faith, your plague shall grow and fester from their bodies." The heretics outburst and plead. "Grandfather Nurgle promises us eternal life, to be immune from all ailments and pain, because we will become that which we most fear!" The two armed heretics aim their lasguns at the other five, as the leader slits their throats and pushes their bodies onto the symbol of Nurgle.

"Come now, great father, let the nurglings feast, let the plaguebearers count your endless poxes and disease upon this planet, let the dark legions that were once slaves to the false God bring your enemies to ruin! This world is too pristine with Imperial power, the Emperor, the false God and slave driver of all who reside here brings sorrow and misery to this world! Open the way to the unholy warp, O' Papa Nurgle, and grant us your power of eternal life! Let your garden of Gifts flourish in this planet!"

With this offering and final prayer, a green glow envelopes the symbol of Nurgle. The bodies suddenly spawn flies and wounds open up all along their bodies, beginning to fester. The aspiring champion smiles. "The Lord of Decay is upon us, keep those blasted Imperial Guard out! Within the moment His Gifts will be bestowed upon this world!" A dark green filth in the air spreads in all directions from the symbol and the bodies, enveloping the heretics. They turn pale and cough grievously in between their chants. Some few buckle over in weakness and collapse to the floor.

The Great Nurgle's Legions are coming..

***Suddenly, the Kasrkin surrounding the warehouse set a single charge, and with a slight bang and a loud fizzle the side-door is melted away, and the Cadian elite troopers slowly but surely file in through the door. As they get through the door, they all spread out, allowing every squad member a line of fire at the Tau. A single word is dropped.
"Fire."
And at that, their hotshot lasguns light up the warehouse, the troopers continuing to slowly and calmly walk towards the Tau as they maintain fire, not a single word spoken.

**The chants of the Nurgle faith turn to screams of agony and coughs, echoing across the warehouse district. The cultists are plagued and diseased, most of them having collapsed to the floor. Only the aspiring champion stands, smiling sadistically. "Hear their cries of joy and thankfulness, O' Grandfather Nurgle! We shall bring this world--To ruin!" The symbol seems to suck inward and fluctuate green with energy.

***The lasfire slowly dies out, much like the Tau peacefully camping in the warehouse. The Kasrkin sergeant walks over and gives one of the Tau a good kick to the side of its helmet.
"Fucking xenos. Let's move."
The Kasrkin begin to slowly file out of the warehouse. One of them suddenly stops, and perks up. He holds a hand up, and motions for the sergeant to come closer.
"Sir. You hear that?"
"Roger that. We've got chaos."
The sergeant looks back at another Kasrkin.
"Call in all Kasrkin squads in this section. We're going to flush them out."
The Kasrkin quickly get into cover and hide. They keep a good eye on the Nurgle warehouse, while still trying to remain undetected.

"This is Kasrkin platoon 8, squad callsign 42. We're requesting help from Kasrkin squad callsigns 13, 52, 72, and 89 in warehouse section G-322-45F. Please respond."
"Tzzhhhccc--Roger that. 53 inbound. Over."
"Affirmative. This is 72. We're responding immediately. Over."
"13 here. Negative. We're assissting 17th platoon with rebels barricaded in a building over here. Over."
"89 responding. We're double-timing it to your position. Over."
"Roger that, responding callsigns. We haven't got much time, so move as fast as possible. Over and out."

Suddenly, a large mob of gangers spill out of a hive alley, closely following an incredibly muscled, half naked and heavily tatooed beast of a man. Most notably of these tatoos: the mark of Khorne across his forehead. He gestures a meaty paw at the warehouse. "Let's grind some 'eads lads." He raises a large makeshift sword, seemingly crudely constructed from a ceiling fan, and rips a stubgun from his waist, beginning to charge into the warehouse, firing into the air. "FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

[[ the karkskins could still ambush them but it didn't seem a likely course of action seeing how thinly spread they are without reinforcements.
